Sounds like me, lol. My dad just isn't into cars and isn't a professional welder. How old are you? I'm thoroughly impressed with your work. I also get alot of inspiration from people comments in my threads. Check out my progress thread on my car. It's definatly not as serious as your project but I'm proud of it.

Yea, the interior is going to be black. I am 27.

Mac- your car looks good. we did a lot of the same things. great minds think alike. i would have to agree with whoever said you should go ahead and delete the pinchweld. it is a bit of work to do, but so well worth it. you had the same thoughts i did on the lower radiator support. that actually is what started this whole thing. we put that bar in, and the cage fever spread like wildfire. now look where we are at.

Here are some of the details people were wanting to know. motor- going to stay in the 5.0 family but will be building a 331c.i. dart block motor, with a F-1C procharger. shooting for around 900 horse. realiable horsepower as we want this car to be a driver. Transmission is still kinda up in the air. we want a 6speed but not sure yet. rear is a narrowed 8.8, posi, moser axles. Car will have coilovers on all 4 corners.
The car is definately built to be overkill, its for that visual impact for when the car will be shown. the stuff on the engine bay is indeed duraglass, kittyhair, we filled and smoothed all the holes, the pinchweld, and whatever else wasn't needed. Did as much metal work to get everything flat and smooth, then we did a skim coat of the duraglass over the whole thing to even it all up.
As of today the car is almost done chassis wise. still have a little more metal work to do

not too specific, but he mentioned it

Thanks for the answering my questions and the new pictures. When you build a car like this or add a cage do you set unibody in a jig or have specific places where you put the jack stands to not add stress to the unibody or added structure when you set the car back on four wheels. Hopefully that makes sense.

Hay sickGT does your handle in any way relate to this car? LOL

When we started, we did the frame rails first. we made sure the car was well supported with jack stands. don't have a jig, well not yet. once the frame rails were in, the car was actually pretty stong. none of the unibody was cut out, which kept the car stong. then the car was supported on the frame rails and the cage was built on top of that.

It would be awesome to get rid of the pinch weld but its alot of extra work (another three weeks of body work) I really want to get my car on the road this year so its going to stay, maybe the next car I do will get it lol.

Hey guys, all of these comments are really great. i debated on weather to make this thread or not. The car is not being built like everything else out there and didn't know how people would accept a car built like this. This is the first major custom build we are doing and it just makes me feel pretty good with the response we have got from everybody. Guess that means i will have to build some more cars to top this one. Once again thanks for the comments guys, Frakenstang thanks for reopening this.

Well guys, the roll cage is offically all in. got two small braces to put in, but the whole main structure is done. Thats a good step in our build. Next on the project plate is to get everything all ground down, smoothed up and get some primer on all the bare metal. Once we get it all primed, we are going to seam seal the tubs, the frame rails, and rear floor area. We are going to use the product know as lizard skin after we get it all primed and sealed. Going to use their sound control product on the entire interior and their ceramic insulation on the underside of the car. Well just wanted to give you guys a update on where we are at. and here are a few pics to look at.

that is the most serious cage/ bracing i have ever seen. that car is trully going to be sick. no way is it ever going to flex. great work guys!

Looks like 1 heck of a project, and you are doing a great job. 1 thing keeps messing with me though. It looks as though the side bars on the cage wont pass NHRA inspection unless there is a secondary removable bar going in. I was working with the guys at C&D Race Cars to figure out what I could live with and what I needed. Unless Im wrong I thought the intersect between high and low mounts had to run through the area that would be between the drivers sholder and elbow as a rule of thumb. Does the owner plan to run the car at the track. Im not knocking anything, I would love to have the skills that you do, but that side bar just looks wrong.

He didn't want the door bar being up that high. He knows the chassis won't be certifiable. This is being built to be more of a show car/driver than just a all out race car. His next project will be the all out race car, bet you guys can't wait to see that. I know i can't wait to build that one. I think you could still take this car to a track and run it, i don't think it will be a 8 sec car, so i don't think they will get too mad. but yes it will not get certified. just a show car
