So, I finally got around to my motor...

I had to brush a few cob-webs away, but, everything has been kept fresh in anti-rust bags/packaging, stowed away in my garage over the winter..

Mic'd everything today, and then installed the crank this evening.. At 60ft lbs on the 12mm main studs, and 45ft lbs on the 10mm main studs, with the bearing shells installed, I showed between .0012 and .0015" of clearance in the mains.. Should be just about perfect.. The rods should be around .0025-.003" if everything was machined properly.. So far, so good..

Pistons/rods go in tomorrow..

just look at what you have already..i see you have a comp cam 274 set of cams in there now with a .500 lift.... Since that is a PI motor you do know that the factory lift on these is .550 and maybe think about switch to a .550 lift cam like the 278AH or the 270AH...

I have having MPH cut me a set of turbo cams.. the 274's came with the original motor/blower setup..

The stock motor never grenaded.. I never really ran it hard though.. maybe 2-3 times at the drag strip..

do you mean block, or crank, rods & pistons, i alway thought a stock 4.6 block with some good internals could handle alot more then that

I'm confused..

The stock "block" will handle 1000+hp.. which is what we're shooting for..

The internals are being replaced with billet parts.. with the exception of the crank, which is a forged cobra unit..

yeah, because i read in alot of places that the 4.6 is a stong block and can handle a lot more then that

the stock internals can handle a good bit of horsepower what they cant handle is a lot of horsepower running a lot of boost. there are guys making 450rwhp on 14psi and they blow up and then we have hotmustang that was runnin 12psi on twin turbos and making 550rwhp and didnt blow. It is also in the tune.

there really isnt a true answer to what these things can handle yet.

I thought the cast iron block (not internals) could only handle like 500-600 whp before cracking? I could be wrong...

When building a high HP motor, we never go by the manufacturer's specs.. It is necessary to go with slightly more rod and main clearance.. Since we don't expect 100k+ out of this engine, we sacrifice longevity for durability. The mains are kept reasonably tight, so we don't drop the pressure delivered to the rod bearings.. but, the rods need to be loose to allow for more oil between the bearing and crank pin.

The Windsor iron block will handle in excess of 1000+whp.. my aluminum block is "said" to be slightly weaker.. but, I don't really believe that.. I've seen several WAP blocks in the 1000hp range.. I think it's all in the block prep and build..
