Pulley Misalignment Help Needed - Vortech S-Trim Setup?

Hi all,

I just had some engine work done at the local Ford dealership in which they had to remove all of the pulleys except for the one on the crank. Since I've gotten the car back, the belt rides one groove off the supercharger pulley (toward the firewall). Does anybody have any advice on this or any experience? Are the supercharger brackets typically shimmed? Thoughts on what it could be? I don't want to take it back to them and am getting ready to make up a laser alignment tool and start from the crank pulley.

Any advice is much appreciated...
 
getting the pulley alignment right on a supercharger setup is such a pain. If the people putting it together forgot to put just a washer/spacer back behind a pulley, its going to throw a lot of stuff off, especially when in boost. Can you tell where the belt is getting thrown off alignment or is it easy to see where the belt is getting routed off center on a certain pulley?

Thanks for the replies people. Unfortunately, I can't tell where the belt is getting thrown off alignment. All that I have to do is crank it without even starting it and it comes off one groove on the SC pulley. You can see where it rides misaligned along the idler pulley right next to it and on the smooth pulley below it (I'm not sure what that one is at the moment). The belt is staying in the grooves on all of the other grooved pullies.
 
Yea, that's what my dad and friends said. To be honest with you, I really don't want them touching it again, so I'm gonna get started on it tomorrow. We'll see what happens...


I understand your concern, I've been there. But talk to the service manager, maybe they will send you to the tech that knows what they are doing, and you can save yourself the headache.

I spoke with the tech that did the work on Friday, and I was kinda disappointed without going into detail. That's part of the reason, I decided to do it.

Anyhow, we're good... I started at the crank shaft pulley and worked my way counterclockwise with my laser pointer alignment tool that I made out of angle aluminum with my presentation pointer. I don't exactly know why I had to do all of this, but this is what I had to do.

Drill larger holes in the back of the alternator bracket and shim the left side of the alternator by 0.050"
Shim the grooved idler pulley out by 0.080"
Shim the smooth flanged idler pulley out by 0.080"

Things were visibly off, but I'm not sure why. Anyhow, she's purring like a kitten, so I should be all set. Next up is the dynotune thing in spring. :)
