Pulling the tranny

There are 4 bolts holding the tranny to the Bell housing. If you're removing it single handed then I'd suggest loosening the trans mount bolts but leave them hand threaded in to catch the weight. It's best to have a trans stand or another pair of hands to help get it out. Then remove the 4 bolts hoding the trans to the housing. Once you've got the tranny supported you can remove the trans mount and wiggle out the trans. This is all assuming you've got everything uptop ready to go i.e. shifter and boot removed etc. No fluid or anything like that will come out of there (unless something is dreadfully wrong with the tranny seals in which case you'd know long before removal). I've had one occation where the pilot bearing fell out when I removed the trans. So if something that looks like a bushing falls out and you don't know what it is well... it's the pilot bearing. Normally they stay put. Ensure you've removes all wires, connectors, and cables, from the tranny prior to taking the bolts out. Keep in mind that once the drive shaft is out that there's nothing holding the fluid in the tranny's rear. A plastic bag and rubber bands over the tail will keep you from making a huge mess if it's tilted to far back.

If you have a really long extention to get your socket on the upper bolts it'll be a big help
