pulling transmission, do I need to support rear of engine??

I've got my tranny all unbolted from the bellhousing and ready to pull out. The engine is still in the car I got a jack under the trans. I start to lower it and the engine tilts and lowers with it. Is this OK? Will it stop at some point? Do I need to support the rear of the engine, or will it lower some and just hang there? Will it be ok like that?

You'll also likely find you have to get kind of medieval on it to get it out and to put it back in - no sense in loading up the front motor mounts that way. In addition to the shroud jrichker mentions, there are numerous other connections that can be put in a bind - cables, hoses, electrical connections, etc. Support the back of the engine.
