Purpose of H or X crossover pipe in exhaust. Problem if I run straight duals???

That may be your opinion on your specific car, but due to cost I too at first had just run straight dual through a set of dynamax muffs. It was decent but had a pronounced 'rush' of air consistenly and sounded off. Through an X-pipe on it and besides smoothing out the exhaust tone it was a noticable increase in power.

Whether the difference is in setup or not, as your car obviously is making more power than mine, does not mean just cause it is on your car, that is end all.

So in my opinion, get the crossover, and make damn sure its an X.:nice:

how consistant are we talking here? .05 of a second and 1mph difference is within an easy margin of error?

and either way that isn't real good R&D. make a change and call it good? if I take two carbs put them on back to back and say one is better then the other by just putting one on then the other is that true R&D or real good? R&D is testing trying tuning eliminating variables testing in various ways.

My car is .01 or dead on. But you also get those round where you spin at the line but that's racing. I'm not saying a crossover couldn't help some cars. I've tried it didn't do anything for me so I'm not going to spend the money on it again. I was just making a short version. I didn't really feel like getting into it. But we used to run NHRA stock eliminator and held National records for a couple of years. It was a year of just renting the track and bringing three different motors, Heads, intakes, tires all kinda of thing and just trying thing. I was just giving my input and my opinion and some stuff I have learned. But every car is different no matter if you built them out of the same exact parts.
 
my car is stock..i ran just the uncatted H-pipe that i have with no mufflers for about two months..when i got the mufflers on i felt that the car was more torquier..then when i got my tailpips, it felt even faster( just a bit )

No one said they had tested the 2 setups on a dyno. And besides that, do you not realize a dyno is just a number? There are so many things that can alter how a car performs besides bolting on said parts that a dyno is NOT the best method of before and after. One of the biggest variables to me is the likelyhood of human error on the dyno operator's part. An engine dyno is a little better but, to me only runs at the track will tell anything close to the truth.

Runs at the track and runs at the dyno both have inconsistancies. I say test it both ways.
 
Wow this thread was brought back up from the thread. Interesting topic though. Funny thing is I didn't have to get rid of the crossover and ended up just cutting the ball flanges off and everything worked out great. I gotta get some vids of my exhaust setup sometime.
