I would make one pass down the track come back put the X pipe on make another it slowed down took it off and it picked up again. Then put it back on slowed down. That what they call R&D. Research and development. When we try new things we want to know if it's helping or hurting.
That may be your opinion on your specific car, but due to cost I too at first had just run straight dual through a set of dynamax muffs. It was decent but had a pronounced 'rush' of air consistenly and sounded off. Through an X-pipe on it and besides smoothing out the exhaust tone it was a noticable increase in power.
Whether the difference is in setup or not, as your car obviously is making more power than mine, does not mean just cause it is on your car, that is end all.
So in my opinion, get the crossover, and make damn sure its an X.
