pushing in rear caliper on gt brakes, special tool?

Installed some rear 94 gt brakes onto a fox and wanted to know how to adjust the caliper for the brakes pads. We tried to push it in but I am thinking there must be a special tool and you twist it back in. Any insight on this?

you can rent the tool from autozone they spin and push in

Yep they twist back in. I ruined a caliper on a maxima years ago buy pushing the piston in. Hopefully you didn't ruin your caliper.

Thanks guys. I stopped before we put a lot of pressure on it. I have pushed in other calipers with ease ( stock calipers )and this one didn't so I knew something was up.

There are two tools

One is a cube you put on the end of a rachet and spin it in with. The other you rent from auto zone which is better and does the same thing by putting pressure as it spins in

Make sure you align the slots at 12 and 6 p clock position when you are done. There are tabs on the pads that fit into the slots

Ahh i see! Thats why you didnt call me back this weekend! Working on that big block fox are you!My calipers were the same way twist in.I bought the square head deal thing that goes on the rachet and it's a POS i broke mine!Call me when your back intown i should have my brackets and TQ boxes to put in next weekend,if i can use your lift? peace

We were able to twist mine in with a pair of needle nose pliers. It wasn't fun, but did work.

In my experience, the cube won't fit the stock 94 GT rear calipers. The kit you loan-out barely gets it done.

You can just get on it with a pair of Channel Locks and a C-clamp....twist and push.

Here's what you're looking for. You're local auto parts store should carry plenty of these. All you need is that tool and a 3/8" ratchet with extension.

I've used needle nose pliers and they work but are a real pain in the a$$. Just get that tool and make your life much easier.

The square piece sucks. I had to grind 2 of the 4 on one side to get it to work on the sn95 calipers. And whoever said the kit you rent barely works is right, it does barely work.

is this true for all rear disk brakes from 94-04?! I have to do my rear's soon and i didnt know this.

Yes almost all new cars that have 4 wheel disc have actuators in the rear calipers meaning they need to be turned back in NOT pushed in like the fronts.

Not all. Some still use an internal drum brake in the rear for the parking brake and the rear calipers push in like then front.

A lot of Nissan/Infiniti are like this....thankfully

That block worked perfectly for me. Even since I realized to leave the top of the caliper mounted to hold it in place while I turn the ratchet, it's been a sinche.

That's weird... Mine works fine. The first time I did my rear brakes I tried to hold the caliper in my hand and twist it in. Then I tried it with the top bolt holding the caliper on, so the caliper would stay in place and it was really easy.
