I bought a push rod length checker from TrickFlow and have no idea how to use it? I mean, from what points do you measure? The rockers are obviously off so...
You might wanna take a look at some of the big cam sites like Crane, Comp, etc cause they used to have very good tech articles with really nice pics and diagrams showing how to use pr checkers, degree wheels, etc.
You will need to measure it from tip to tip, or at least that is how I had to measure my crane cams length checker and that worked. I also used a good set of dial calipers to make sure that the measurement was as exact as possible.
If you bought the type that is simply an adjustable pushrod then here's how to get it done.
Install the rod checker with heads on and loosely install the rocker. Turn the crank until you begin to get pressure from the lifter. Once you get pressure, adjust the checker as necessary until the rod mates correctly with the rocker. If you have adjustable rockers this is immensly easier. Rotate crank again until valve is completely closed and ensure there is no slack in the rod, if there is adjust the rod until it's gone. Rotate crank once more to ensure proper placement of rocker on rod and correct movement of the valve from completely closed to completely open. The closer you get to true on a non-adjustable rocker setup the better you'll be. The same is true of an adjustable setup but you have the benefit of some room to play with. Once you are sure of the length, measure the checker and order your rods!
