Pushrod Length Checking Lifter

Guys, please verify that I did this correctly. I took 2 stock roller lifters, removed the spring retainer and plunger. I filled the bottom cavity of the lifter with small nuts (1/4") and a washer then reinstalled the plunger and spring clip (real tight fit). Will this remove any compression from the lifter when checking pushrod length? Also, are the lighter springs required when using an adjustable push rod tool?
Thank you, vann

you should have just left the lifter alone and used a test spring. they dont have enough pressure to compress the lifter. imo

That's another way to do it, but if you don't like removing springs (or don't have the tools for that matter) it's a lot easier to do what he's doing.

A word of caution, don't rotate the engine with the length checker in...it'll snap. It isn't strong enough to withstand the force of the spring when you turn the engine over.
