so i got everything i need to ditch the aode in exchange for the 3550.. any advice or problems that i will encounter? any tips or secrets?

i also received my tweecer in the mail today.. i was wondering if the car will run on the auto computer until i can get it home from the shop.. i don't have a laptop so i will ghetto it until i find one..

thanks for reading, it feels so darn good to be modding the stang again..

My advice would be to mark the driveshaft and pinion to ensure that you re-align them correctly.

Also, check the bellhousing for radial runout (search around for the article) - I just spent the last 1 1/2 years searching for the source of vibration after my Tremec install only to find out that it was the bellhousing.

Good luck!!!

MOST DEFINITELY INDEX YOUR BELL HOUSING!!! There is an article on how to do it on http://www.mustangworks.com I too had a bad driveline vibration which mostly was caused by too much run-out. TTC allows a MAX of .005" AT THE END OF THE BELL HOUSING for run out. Read the article on mustangworks first, then if you have questions ask. Most people know nothing about this...

Also, which bell housing are you using? You will need shorter bolts for the top two holes in the bell housing as the casting is thinner there than our stock bell housing. Also, triple check to make sure that your shifter/tranny case isn't hitting the floor anywhere, and put a small thin plate between the trans mount and the tranny. You do this because the factory exhaust hanger that normally goes there can not be reused as its too big to fit with the tremec, by putting a small piece of metal in there you help restore the pinion angle lost by taking it out. It cut down o my vibrations somewhat by adding this. I just used flat steel about 1/8" thick.

Please explain the type of vibration you had. I installed the tremec 3550 in my car from a friends car (which he had no problems with) and now I have a vibration. At the time he had just taken his billet steel flywheel in to get 0 balanced with his new engine setup. After the flywheel was 0 balanced and he decided to go with a c-4 instead we struck a deal, he had the flywheel put back to 50oz balance and we installed it. The motor had vibration in it from about 1600 or so RPMs and gradually got worse as the RPMs increased. We just took the flywheel back out took it to the guy to rebalance it, he says it was a little off and maybe that was it. I'll know more in the morning however just not sure if this is the same problem you guys were having.

No I have not indexed my bellhousing and would have no clue where to even start. I clicked the link you gave and didn't see anything but will keep looking.

Here's the link...

As for the vibration, mine was a MPH vibration, meaning it appeared as soon as I hit ~70mph. Yours is a RPM vibration so that narrows it down to the harmonic balancer, internal rotating assembly, flywheel, clutch assembly, and input shaft. It will not be anything else like the rear end, DS, mainshaft of the trans, etc. For as cheap as new stock replacement flywheels are, I wouldn't even mess with that flywheel you have, just buy a new one for around $99 and know that it is not your problem as I suspect it is.

make sure you shim up the tranny at the cross member mount so the drive shaft is in alignment found out this was what the problem was on my car. if you dont it creates a pinch/bind in the front uni and you will get the nasty vibe i had, cant tell you how much to shim since my car is lowered and trajectory is off even more

My vibration was worst at speeds above 70 mph, but was present in all gears. My tranny was also noisy and didn't like to downshift into 2nd gear.

After replacing the SROD bellhousing I had been using with the FMS bellhousing the tranny shifts 100% better, is much quieter and drops right into 2nd gear on the downshifts.

I never check runout on either bellhousing, but I can assure you that it was the source of my problems...
