Quad Shocks

do i need em? mods in sig. pretty much every rear suspension part has been upgraded, so do i still need my quads? i just dont want wheel hop since ive heard thats all the quads control is hop. also, can i just unbolt em on rhino ramps? i dont need to lower the axle do i?
 
The megabites you have alter the geometry so that engine torque pushes the tires down for more traction. Conventional wisdom says take the quad shocks off so this toque reaction works better.

However, I have found that some cars get a bounce, where the car leaves hard the first 2 feet and then spins slightly a few feet out. The quads will slow the torque reaction and reduce this bounce. Each car is different depending on weight, torque, tires, etc. The ony way to know for sure is try it each way.

They just unbolt. You can do it on ramps if you can get a wrench in there with the tire on.

theoretically, i shouldnt have any wheel hop, right? i mean, the whole point of the control arms is to push on the rearend to produce traction. plus the weight of the car shifting back under hard acceleration should limit hop. how do the quads slow the tq reaction? im unsure how they work
 
The "bounce" from megabites & southsides isn't the same as conventional wheelhop. It happens when the tires plant so hard the back of the car rises to the end of it's suspension travel, momentarily unloading the tires.

The quads don't directly limit this. Adjustable rear shock valving would do that. But they do soften the axle twisting reaction when the tires load and unload, which leads to wheel hop.

The main benefits to removing them are: 1) increased wheel clearance, 2) a few pounds saved directly over the rear tires (the least beneficial place to remove weight).

Everyone always says "get rid of them." But on a road race course my lap times are better with them.
