Howdy,

I’m having what seems like carb issues with my 66 sprint 200. She starts and idles fine but hesitates and sometimes cuts out when gas is apllied. The real issue is that she won’t restart easily if driven around without a long break in between. My thought is to buy a back up carb, put it in and rebuild the origional.

Any suggestions on a quality carb I can purchase as a back-up?

Please also chime in if you think I have a different issue.

Thanks!

This is just kind of a general thing that applies to carbureted cars but if they sit, the diaphragm in the accelerator pump can rot. That’ll do what you’re describing so I think a rebuild is in order. If it were me, I’d order a rebuild kit and do it myself, it’s really not hard at all. I think those are one barrel carbs. But a replacement may be a good choice if you’re unsure of your ability to do the job having never attempted one before. I’ve had good luck with NPD for all my Mustang stuff if you’re looking for a replacement.
