Quesition about adding Mobil 1 synthetic to a car thats never had synthetic oil befor

I bought some Mobil 1,dam that stuff is expensive. I heard once you put syntetic oil in a car you cant go back to regular oil so i was wondering if when i put this in its going to be the same. Do i just do a regualr oil change and refil with mobil one?

Hah another one I broke the rule on! I used Mobil 1 for about 2 years and just decided to switch back to regular b/c I change my oil a lot. I'm obsessed with fresh clean fluids in my car and that chit is too damn much $$$. I have not had any problems as a result of that.

Realistically fossil oils will last to 5k + miles. Its just the oil changing places that think you should change it every 3k. WIth synthetic and a performance car that gets beat on, i would change it every 4k miles to just be safe.

About the cost. If theres a cosco around your area, they sell the case of mobil 1 for 17 or 18 dollars(6 quarts). Thats more then 15 less then autzone sells it for.

autozone is aroung 30 bucks. i just bought some 10w30 mobil 1 last night.

do any of you high mileage guys use any oil additive?

i changed mine last august when i dropped the tranny for the clutch install. ill be changing it again next month for a new tb. how often are you supposed to change the tranny fluid?

Tranny fluid

Tranny fluid can go for over 20,000 miles. Tranny fluid is not the same as engine oil, and is designed to get higher mile usage. In my shop, we usually change trans fluid after like 30,000 miles. It doesn't require servicing as much as the engine oil does.

I changed back and forth a couple times on my GT, it has 196K miles on it. I don't think it hurt it. Consider that myth busted.

Synthetic oil can go a long time without a change, just keep it clean by changing the filter every 3-5K miles. I read a study where they found out that most of the engine wear occurs in the first 3K miles after you change the oil, then it levels off.

In this study, they took out 1 quart or maybe it was .5 quart every 1K miles and sent it to get tested. They went on like this until 18K miles with an oil filter change at 8K miles. The test was with Mobil 1 in an LT1 camaro and they stopped at 18K because they wanted to try the test with RedLine.

In my opinion, sythetic oils are worth the switch at any milage, just make sure to keep it topped off, that's the most important thing.

You can drain just trans fluid. If it's a 5spd, there is a drain plug on the lower rh side, and a fill plug on the top rh. Get a service manual, and follow the procedures. Automatics, you pull the trans pan, replace the filter, and gasket, reinstall pan, and fill her up and check the level.

If you want to run Mobil-1, the best place to get it is as Walmart. Some of them (nor all, you may have to look around), carry a 5-quart jug of it for around $19. It used to be less, but they raised the price to $22 and rolled it back to $19.

Target has it for $3.79 a quart. That comes to like 18.95 for 5 quarts.

Just did mine when we put a new clutch in since it was due anyway.

autozone has a special if u buy 5 qts of mobil 1 and a mobil 1 filter, i cant remember the price though
