I received my XCAL3 and Custom Tunes from Bamachips on Tuesday of this week and I'm pleased with the increase in performace, but a little underwhelmed with the Race Tune. I received the 91 Race, 91 Torque and 87 Performance.

See, the Torque Tune pulls very strong down low and even in the middle and actually puts the 'grin' on my face I was hoping for, but the Race tune seems a little.. 'safe'?
In fact, it's downright tame. Anyone else have a similar experience? Or any of you tried the Bama Custom Race Tune and had a different experience than I've had? Maybe it's just me and my expectations were too high, I don't know. Regardless, the Torque Tune is awesome.

I drive an '08 GT, with a 5-speed by the way. Any ideas, suggestions? Thanks

The race tune should be better than the torque tune. With the race tune, blipping the throttle should throw your head back a bit. I'd send Doug an email. With the race tune, 2/3 throttle should be WOT.

Okay, thanks. I just wanted to get some input about how the Race and Torque should compare and make sure I don't settle on the fact that the Torque tune is out performing the Race tune. I'll shoot him an email over the weekend.

Just a question... Are you currently using a CAI with your Bama tunes?? I'm running Doug's Torq and Race tunes for my Predator and my Steeda CAI and I'm totally pleased with the performance from both. The Race tune turned my steed into a beast and is able to go sideways when the hammer's down. Best thing for you to do is shoot Doug an email and explain to him what you're experiencing. I'm sure with his great customer service he'll do whatever it takes to make you a happy customer.

I had a friend using the race tune and when we scanned it he was getting knock on 91 octane and the car was actually slower than the torque tune. You may be experiencing a similar problem. The timing was advanced a wee bit too far and that hurt the power.

This is true. I had AFR issues with Bamachips. The best thing to do is throw it on the dyno with a wideband and send the information from that to Doug. Not only can he fix the AFR issue (which is probably the problem), but he can tighten up the tune based on how the car is performing on the dyno.

Thanks for the suggestions. Not sure about an AFR issue, as there is no knocking that I can tell. Just the usual lifter ping. I thought that maybe this could all just be in my head. I was thinking I might just be overwhelmed by the Torque tune upon initial testing and figured that it would naturally pull harder at lower RPM's than the Race tune, hence the tune's name.. but after switching back from the Race to the Torque last night after a run at the track, there's no way I'm going back. From what I've read here and other forum's from people who have Doug's custom tunes, the Race tune should perform like the Torque tune at low RPMs, but continue throughout the powerband giving broader range of power across the board. I've looked at the settings on the SCT, XCAL3 and everything looks like standard fare, even some settings displaying 'stock value'.

I emailed him on Thursday, haven't heard from him yet, but I know he'll get back to me. In the meantime, that Torque is a one mean mo'fo.
