question about ebrake

there is alot play with my ebrake lever from left to right and the wheels are still locked even after the brake is down (ill just let the engine pull the car forward and they open up). i figured i had to adjust the ebrake. get underneath the car and lo and behold the cable that comes off of the lever brake at the where it connects to the cable that branches to both rear wheels has no adjustment nut. im guessing it should. if so what size?

Nope not adjustable, you can adjust your rear drums thats about it. If you want an adjustable H/B you could always do the Handbrake Mod that we do for 5 Lug Conversions.

why does my haynes book say there is a way meh? there a past thread for that?

Haynes is a real Generic Book, the reason it is mentioned is because the pre 87s had an Adjustment next to the Handbrake itself.

That is where I adjusted mine. I've got an 85 GT, brake in the console.

Exactly, you have the old style.

Sounds like the brake shoes are sticking. I'd look int he drums first for a fix

and mine is a 86. Didn't realize they dropped that adjustment in 87. Well if I ever sell the car I'll have to list that as a feature. LOL

If you have alot of wiggle left to right then the handle is just plain wearing out. If you decide to replace it, wind the Spring and stick a nail through it to hold its tension otherwise you will be fighting with it.

Ditto... they wear out with time, especially if people jam a drink in between the ebrake and seat ... I'm working on replacing mine today, found one in nice shape at the junkyard for like $8...
