You never need an intercooler, but they always help reduce detonation, increase hp and help efficiency of the blower and motor all around (gas mileage). I'm non intercooled here in FL and I can tell a big difference from 7am to 2pm. But since I'm not racing at all times of the day I do not worry about it, plus I'm still on the 156k mile longblock.

Cobra's and other roots and twin screws do get heat soaked too, just A2A intercoolers offer much more efficiency, as the faster the vehicle is moving the more air that is flowing over the cores of the intercooler, thus reducing heat soak and keeping the motors' IAT's nice and low.
