Hi everyone,
I'm going to pick up my mustang tomorrow. Its a 92 LX Special Edition w/ 67,000 miles on the clock. The previous owner has 3.55s in the rear. I'm not sure if he did the speedo gear with it. If he hasn't, then the actual mileage would be less than what the odometer says right? Also, lets just say the gears were done right when the car was brand spankin' new, how off would the odometer be?

I don't think the speedo gear ahs anything to do with the odometer.

When I put 3.55 gears in my car the speedo was off about 15 MPH so the odometer could be off a good bit.

I can't remember if it will be high or low but it will be off if the speedo gear hasn't been changed. Both the speedo and the odometer are driven off of that gear.

If the speedo reads high say 50 when you are doing 40 then yes the milage is actually lower by that percentage.

You are correct. The odometer would read higher then actual miles if he didn't change the gear. Also remember that the odometer could be 167,xxx as opposed to 67,xxx. Just something to keep in mind when buying a fox
