question about intake on 96gt

im not real familiar with the 4.6 engines. im wanting to purchase a 96 gt. the guy selling it says that he replaced the intake with an 03 intake. i asked if it was a pi head swap and he said no, just the intake. is this possible? and would it do any good for the car performance wise? he said the 96 intake was leaking so he replaced it with an 03 intake. once again this is on a 96gt. i would appreciate anyones help. thanks!

wow, that sounds like a big gain from just the intake. what is the difference between an 03 intake and a 96 intake? i was under the impression that the big holdup was the heads. i guess if it has an 03 intake on it for real the heads will be easier to put on or i should say ill need less parts when i do the pi upgrade. anyone know how i can look at it and be sure its really an 03 intake and not a 96 one. i dont know why someone would lie about something like that but you never know. :)

The swap does not have to be done with adapter plates.

The easiest way is to look at the the valley between the heads. If it has a PI intake( 99+ ), it will fill the valley, if there is a noticeable space between the intake and the block, it has the 96 - 98( NPI ) intake. Another way to tell is to look at where the first runner goes behind the crossover goes. I know the NPI goes to one side and the PI the other, but I don't remember off the top of my head which side.

First runner on PI goes to driver side and NPI is passenger side :nice:
