I pulled my engine and transmission out together today.

My TCI converter has studs on it that barely fit through the flexplate holes...I mean...TIGHT. well, when I went to go seperate the engine and trans, the torque converter stayed bolted to the flexplate and the transmission came off....with some twisting and turning and coaxing.

So, there I sat with my engine and trans seperated and the torque converter still bolted to the fexplate. well, the center shaft on my transmission...i can pull right out with my hand. I can push it back in, fortunately, i cant turn it or anything like that.

Is that center-most shaft on the C4 suppose to slide out like it does? I cant remember if it is suppose to or not. Could anything have been damaged by the torque converter staying bolted to the engine when i seperated it from the trans? What should I look for?

Nothing at all unusual about what you did. That shaft does come out that way. When you put the two back together, take the converter loose from the flexplate first and reinstall it back onto/into the input shaft/front pump.
