question about sfc's. HELP ME OUT HERE!

ok I was just making some measurments for my subframe connectors, and was wondering what people normally make them out of. Ive seen people use angle and the like, but I was thinking of trying flatstock, for clearance issues. If I go with a piece of 1 3/4"x1/2" flat steel, do you think that would give me enough rigidity? And I am going to make "ears" for it so that it bolts to the seat bolts as well. And I am welding them in.
So what do you think?

Stong enough for what? Yes it will make a difference I am sure, but how it woudl compare to tubular or boxed setups, I can't say. I guess it also depends on the steel itself.

Check this link http://secure.50resto.com/product1.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=1049&Category_ID=343 it is a pair of sub frame connectors with seat reinforcements for under $50. And its 50Resto.com These guys are awesome. For this price I wouldn't mess with trying to do my own. Just my opinion though.

That is a great price, but Im getting the steel for free and welding them myself so its about 5 dollars in supplies for me.

strong enough for a 260rwhp car, that doesnt do any autoxing or any types of turns while racing.
If I am correct, the main duty of sfc's is to tie the rear and front subframes together right?

Why not go with regular boxed style frame connectors? I personally wouldn't waste my time with the flat stock your talking about. If your worried about clearance THAT much, and have cutting/welding skills, then maybe you should look into through-the-floor frame connectors.

Im probably gonna go with side exhaust, and could use the clearance there.
Plus my car will probably only gain about 50 hp in its street use, so Im not real high powered over here.

Werd!

In floors are the way to go if you are worried about clearance, the guys at www.dprsocal.com have done several sets. Email them for more info, they might have pics too.
