Quick question about shocks. Just droped the read in my 73, I'm ordering new parts (bushings, read disk conversion kit and so on) I was looking at the shocks
I just removed (see attached) and noticed that they have springs. I have not seen any replacement shocks with springs. Can any one explaine what the difference is between what I removed and let say KBY gas shocks, or Koni for that matter. The Koni's are 240 a pair for the rear, the KBY's are about 40. I know you get what you pay for, but why the big price diff?

Thanks

Bob

Those are replacement shock with helper springs, they didn't come with the car. Monroe called these "load levelers" I've got a pair on my 89 Ranger. If you've got new or good springs, you shouldn't need them, unless you're going to tow heavy loads:stirpot: or haul Moonshine or drugs.

Thanks D. The springs looked good when I took them down. going to have them, the housing and the perches(?) sand blasted and then I'll paint them. No TOW package, No DRUGS!! Maby some moonshine. I would deffinently haul a cute
Blond, Brunett and Redhead, but thats off topic. What are your thoughts about
Koni vs KBY?

Never bought either of em. I have towed many things with my old 67 big block Stang, 77 Comet (it's got a 10 hp "Shelby" trailer ball on it's hitch)and 06 Stang GT. Even won a race with the trailer behind the BB 67 Stang. Ever seen a Stang doing a burnout with a trailer hooked up?

The 06 handles my custom built utility trailer like it wasn't there. This trailer was built using a jet ski trailer frame and has an aluminum diamond plate box, 3.5'Wx 6' Lx 16" H I weighed it coming back from a trip out to Colorado last summer and with the camping gear in it, it weighed 800 lbs. Mileage only dropped 1 mpg. 23 mpg average for a 3000 mile trip. It'll top 120 mph with the trailer. I use it at least once a week to haul parts, and building materials. pics here: http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p53/baddad457/

Konis are one of the best shocks made, back when I bought mine they were 100.00 a pair, why they went up so much I'll never know but you wont find a better shock on a stang.

D, have you ever thought about one of those small tear drop campers? They sleep just two, but are very nice. Maby I'll think about a hitch for the vert, paint the trailer the same as the car. Might be nice....

Hot Wheels, thanks for the input. I haven't been cheap yet doing this restore, 500 bucks for shocks all the way around sort of shocked my monkey (Pun intended) This is going to be an expensive week....

Nice, but at over 6', those things aren't wide enough for me to sleep in. We usually go up to Colorado and camp at 10,000 ft. Tent is just fine with an air mattress.
