Question about smog tube modification

I just put a stock h-pipe back on the 91. I had to take the smog tube off because it was getting in the way. Now that the h-pipe is in place I can't get the thing back in. Can I cut it in half and just use some hose to run the rest of it down to the h-pipe connection?

Here's some help on getting it reconnected providing that it is long enough.
Drill a 1/8" hole all the way through the air pipe about 1 1/2" from the end where it connects to the H pipe. Put a nail or pin punch it the hole so that about 1" sticks out on each side of the pipe. Put a 3/4" or larger wrench up against the nail or pin punch and hammer away. The pipe will now slide into place with the right amount of persuasion from the hammer. Once it is in place, use a couple of sheet metal screws to plug the holes and you are done.

I had my car run that way for about a year or so and it worked fine. I say give it a shot.

Thanks. That stock pipe was a pain to line up because it's so heavy and the car is an automatic with a bigger bellhousing. I really didn't want to take it apart.
