Now that i've finally got the crank out of the block, take a look at the crap we found:

The plan already is to take it to a machine shop for fixin', but i'm just curious as to what you all think. Using my finger, the journals feel perfectly smooth. However, when using the tip of my fingernail, I can feel a couple very slight grooves. Is it going to need a turn, or just a polish? I also plan on getting the block honed and vatted, since there is a TON of dirt and grime in there still. Whoever rebuilt this engine in the first place needs to die. :nonono:

And on a side note, some good news. I fixed my nasty cooling system leak! Yup, the water pump went out completely. While I was at it, I also replaced the radiator. Here is a shot of the old pump vs. the new one. Yikes!

The engine is so much quieter now, and it doesn't make the weird noises it used to make. I had to fill up the radiator every time I drove it, just so I could make it to and from work! Damn, I get so lazy sometimes... :rlaugh:

wow, I think that waterpump might be shot.
Anyway, what is the red stuff on the crank in the second picture? Looks kinda odd.
Only the machine shop will be able to tell you if the crank needs to be turned. While a smooth surface is important, the more important factor is the journal diameter.

I'm not sure what that red stuff is either. No matter, it's all getting vatted and cleaned anyways. :D What do you think it is?

Oh, BTW, we found a spun bearing for the center main journal. Since the engine had barely been run, it shouldn't matter (neither of us can find any major damage). Maybe the bearing has something to do with that red stuff? It just looked like burnt sealant or something...it's weird.
