Now that i've finally got the crank out of the block, take a look at the crap we found:
Close up:
The plan already is to take it to a machine shop for fixin', but i'm just curious as to what you all think. Using my finger, the journals feel perfectly smooth. However, when using the tip of my fingernail, I can feel a couple very slight grooves. Is it going to need a turn, or just a polish? I also plan on getting the block honed and vatted, since there is a TON of dirt and grime in there still. Whoever rebuilt this engine in the first place needs to die.
And on a side note, some good news. I fixed my nasty cooling system leak! Yup, the water pump went out completely. While I was at it, I also replaced the radiator. Here is a shot of the old pump vs. the new one. Yikes!
The engine is so much quieter now, and it doesn't make the weird noises it used to make. I had to fill up the radiator every time I drove it, just so I could make it to and from work! Damn, I get so lazy sometimes...
