question about thumper heads, wrong info maybe

I'm no expert but sounds like someone ground the exhaust humps down and called em Thumpers. I don't know of any customers that had complaints with thumpers on there car but I do know some people upgrading a few years down the road. You could also look into Powerheads.com. Here are some flow numbers from a Ford related website on different heads so you can see the potential of different heads.

Who cares about flow numbers. They flow and that's all that matters. If you make 600whp in a 9000lbs car it's not gonna make a difference because it's gonna be slow. People get too excited with numbers.

EDIT: If it sounds as if I'm being a smart***, then don't think I am, I just don't know how to reword it.

I don't know what to say. I had Thumper E7TE heads with the valve spring upgrade, and it along with the 1.7RR's, edelbrock intake, and a 70mm TB made a HUGE difference in my car. I was finishing the 1/8th mile at a crappy track at 8.4 @ 85mph with a 1.8 60ft, 17" nitto's, near stock weight GT. I ran next to many aftermarket headed mustangs, and could beat most LS1 powered F-bodies with light mods. For making such crappy heads, Mike (Thumper460) sure does seem to have a lot of happy customers.

you have waited this long for heads right? why not wait some more to save a little more coin, then when the time is right buy some aluminum heads. I am not sure about thumper heads but, power heads go for a pretty penny. I would highly suggest you save your money and wait on a good set of aluminum heads. You'll get much more power compared to stock heads no matter how much porting has been done to them. Not only that you'll save weight. 25 pounds or so off the front. good luck on your decision.

From the info I have heard, and from his response to my inquiry, he seems to have an excellent setup worked out for porting these things. Not sure if I am going with his porting or with a new head setup yet. Waitin' on the IRS

I dynoed my car before the thumpers heads and a TMOSS ported lower at 170hp and 240 foot pounds. After the head and lower intake swap I went to 215hp and 280 foot pounds. My compression is only at half of what it’s supposed to be, so that’s why the HP numbers are low. If I was to do it over, I would have probably bought used aluminum heads seeing they are around 500-700 on the local boards. But I am not disappointed with Thumper’s heads one bit.

I might let thumper take a stab at my E7s sometime in the future. So far on a stock bottem end (honed) with a stock cam, and unported intake it put down...

272/316

I have a friend with Kuntz&Co NMRA prepped E7s (so I have been told, not sure if they were ported or not) that put down 300+ to the wheels, and I would think if mine were ported it could put down similar numbers! Dont get me wrong, my heads have some larger valves and a valve job, but a good milling (drag some compression out of them), and some porting on the intake and exhaust side would help a good amount I think!

EDIT: Also it is way more fun to run good times and tell people the car still has E7s, and a stock cam. Gets more attention than a car running the same time with a set of TFS heads and a cam! If you dont believe me, come to the track or local hang outs with me :D!

i was definantly getting aluminum heads but since i will need pushrods and bunch of crap just to bolt them on, i am not doing that. i don't really wanna get used aluminum heads, they are to easy to screw up and you don't ever know what you are getting into. i saw a pic of the exhaust ports on the web and wow, they are huge compared to the puny stock ports.

I still dont understand this whole E7 fetish. They belong in the scrap yard. The sooner you can get yours there, the better.

And you never will unless you have a fast E7 car...

Take my word for it, every time I tell someone what the car has and what it runs, they respond and that alone is well worth running the heads! I would love to take some of the people who "dont get it" to the track with me, and see what others say and do when they see the car run and see whats done to it. That alone makes it worth while!!! That and its cheaper than an AL head combo, I get to race in my heads up classes (against cars running high 11s low 12s, not mid 10s in the class Id have to run with AL heads) and I wouldnt say mid 12s is suffering any!

I dont expect you to understand, but Ill take my junkyard heads and run them into the 11s before a power adder goes on! Unless I get into some good money and decide to change the combo up!

I don`t know about the budget part if your paying a shop to port them.Porting heads isn`t cheap, especially in Canada.
I had the owner of a 5.0L Mustang shop in Toronto who does engine rebuilding and porting tell me that porting E7`s was a waste of money these days if done at a shop.

With the cost of porting E7`s he said you could pick up a decent set of used aluminum heads instead that offer more performance.

There was a used stang parts place here selling a set of low mile ported E7`s off a wreck with larger valves and heavy duty valve springs for $500 firm, claiming that $1000+ had gone into them.
They mentioned the shop that ported them.I contacted the shop and they said the heads were the equivalent in flow to a stock GT40 cast iron head.

If I was going to port a lousey E7 head,I would buy the Valako Race Head E7 porting DVD and do it myself. Not worth paying a shop big $$$ to port these boat anchors.

I agree worth the $50, but then you dont get the sponsorship money if you win a race! And lets just say I have seen some money come my way from my "head" guy! My dad has as well but he runs a set of GT40Ps!

Like I said, you guys wont ever understand it until you walk a mile in my shoes (so to say) or anyone who has a fast E7 cars shoes. I am extremely happy with what I have done with these heads and expect to do more, and probably only have into them what a set of out of the box TFS or some other head would cost! Sure the TFS heads have more potential, but a TFS headed car running a low 12 or high 11 is cool, but doing it in an NA car with E7s, is 5 times more impressive!

if you find a set of new aluminum heads that flow better than these heads for 600-700 dollars then let me know; because for 700 i am going to have a rebuilt head that has been magnufluxxed, shaved if needed,5 angle valve job for performance, fully ported and polished as well as have .600 lift springs and flow tested.then they are painted nicely and you can use the stock pushrods and other components. i didn't mention free shipping either.i also forgot to mention that the exhaust bumps are ground down flat.

do yall think it would be better to have a set of 351w heads ported by thumper or just go with e7's.
