So im fixing to order a new set of lifters, just some basic hydraulic lifters. Will their be any noticeable difference between the Rhoads variable duration ones ($90), Comp high energy ($90), or just the summit racing ones ($60). Are they all basically the same? If the Rhoads will give any extra performance and their variable duration isn't pure BS, ill go for those. But is there any difference between the comp and summit ones besides the name?

I've never dealt with the Rhodes lifters, but as far as the difference between the Summit Racing vs. Comp Cams lifters, not only is there no difference, they probably came off the same assembly line... There aren't many lifter manufacturers, so all the companys that sell lifters buy from the same sources. I forget which brands they were (I had a couple different cams in my old motor), but at least one of my cam swaps (only noticed once, didn't really pay attention the other times) I replaced 1 brand of lifters with a different, yet identical, brand of lifters.

Eaton makes just about everybodys lifters these days, I think Rhoads may be the exception.

Rhoads do work, but they are a little tougher to adjust. They make noise even when set right. If your are using a set-up where you just torque the rocker nut, like FE Fords or small blocks with press in studs, they are OK to adjust. Otherwise, they can be pretty tricky.

They only really give you extra HP if you are running more cam.

OK, I'll bite, tell me how a lifter is going to give you more HP? And WTF is a variable duration lifter? Sounds like hocus pocus to me.

The Rhoads bleed down faster then normal lifters. This makes a big cam act like a smaller one at lower RPM's. It doesn't really add horsepower, it just makes the motor more livable.

Hmmm, if that is the case then i wouldn't trust them. Don't like the idea of a designed in leakdown. Sounds like it would be prone to premature failure. I'd give it a :notnice: :D

Rhoad lifter has be around for years. My brother used a set in his pontiac.

Like what Mustang70 said, Rhoad lifters provides a smoother idle on the hi-performance cam. So basically, the benefit would only be if you will be using a high-lift cam.
