Jus got this car and have since put on: shorty headers, off road H, flowmaster cat back, 255 pump, and bbk cai. Im looking now to get into the actual air intake situation. i want to keep the stock upper and lowers for now($$$). Whats the biggest MAF and TB i should put on a stock intake? 65mm? whats the stock TB? Also, iver heard those 1.5" phenolic spacers help, its this true? (other than valve cover clearance?) One more thing, ive put on an MSD blaster coil and 8.5 MSD wires, would an MSD 6al box help me at all at this point still being NA? Also, i wouldnt need to upgrade the stock injectors anytime soon would i? any input appreciated TIA

Your car is close to stock. I wouldnt touch the ignition yet. You sould search the site. This type of general info can be found just by studying other guys combos and how they put them together.

i thought basic ignition stuff(coil, wires, etc) was always good to start with. I know the box isnt for me right now, i was just wondering what guys thought of it.....how about the airflow stuff, that should help any car, shouldnt it?

the phenolic spacers are basically useless and a 1.5 inch wont fit with a stock hood. the maf is a worthwhile mod at this point but you will feel no gain from a tb or from the msd box. you may want to also look into underdrive pulleys and an afpr.

My "near stock" combo consists of

-tmoss ported lower intake
-upper intake ported to match a......
-65mm Motorsport TB
-70mm MAF from a 94-95 GT
-stock airbox with a K/N

As for wires, I run Motorsport 9mm's.

Stock ignition and coil are fine until you get into bigger upgrades. Stock wires will work great and bigger one's won't really do much other than look good. As for spacers and airflow stuff, it's all in what you want. Stock airbox does great for airflow. For a mainly stock car, I definately wouldn't go bigger than a 76mm MAF and a 65mm TB, anything else is overkill. Hope this gets you going a little.

thanks for the input guys, im new at this NA stuff, ive been into the turbo buicks for the past few years, its a totally different world. so im guessing then id get a bigger gain going to an aftermarket upper and lower first? as for the afpr, what would rasing my fuel pressure help at this point? arent they mainly for spray and forced induction?

Correct, an AFPR will do nothing for you right now. Fuel adjustments are made by the computer until it cannot compensate. Stick with the stocker.

I used a 3/8 inch spacer, but only to clear the valve covers, which were taller and used to clear the roller rockers, now, combined with my motor mounts, I don't clear the hood. Oh well. (running a taller explorer intake)

As far as mods go, you're better off addressing suspension and traction issues. you'll get a TON of more go power by adding 3.73 gears, good rear upper and lower control arms, and a set of drag tires if you're into drag racing.

As far as the intake stuff, I wouldn't spend the big money on an aftermarket intake unless you plan on upgrading the heads and cam too. I'd go with the stock ported lower, and a 65mm throttle body at most (60 is stock).

sorry, guess i forgot to mention that....i have subframe connectors, bilstens all around and aftermarket tubular upper and lower rears, as well as nitto 555r DR's......i dont want to go with too high a gear because i drive it everyday and they kill mileage. it has 3.55's now, which ive heard were good with the 5spd

I will try to answer your questions in order.

1) The biggest MAF I would say Pro-M 80MM. It works the best BY FAR.

2) Biggest TB would be 65, but you will not really gain any HP by switching to the larger TB at this point.

3)The stock TB size is 60mm.

4)The phenolic spacer wont net you anything in HP. I would only use one if you need clearence for taller valve covers.

5)The MSD will not give you any HP. Save your money.

6)You do not need to upgrade to bigger inectors any time soon. I have seen stock injectors work up to 300 RWHP without any issues.

BTW, the stock headers will make more power than the BBK's right now as well.
