I found a 95 GT in the local newspaper with 77k miles being sold for $5500. Pretty cheap for this area. I went to look at it, and when I checked the VIN number, I found
1FALP4041SF850596
The 40 on the VIN tells me that the VIN corresponds to a v6, right? The car definetly has a v8 in it now. I couldn't find a door tag on the driver's door, though I'm not all that familiar with the SN95 'stangs. I ran the VIN through carfax and it came up invalid. I then called ford, and they also said it was invalid. I am waiting for the owner to call me to verify the VIN.
Can anyone see an obvious error in the VIN number (as in an obviously wrong digit that I wrote down)?
Or did I walk into something awry? When I looked at the car, I also looked at the title, which also had the 40 in it to indicate the V6. The seller is not the original owner. SN95 stang coupes don't come up for sale often in this area (minneapolis, MN). Should I pass on this one and hope another comes up?
Thanks!
