Hey guys, I have a few stangs. I have a 96 mark 8 i was considering swapping the engine to my 99. Should I swap the intake and heads? or Just rebuild it and the whole dang thing?
I think the mark vlll was an aluminum block/heads like the cobra engine, sounds like a good swap to me. I think there was some swap issues with some cranks not drilled for a pilot bearing but I'm no modular melvin so I'll move this to a forum with some more experienced members.
The 4V heads have a larger combustion chamber (51cc vs 42cc), enough to drop your compression ratio by about a point (roughly 8.2:1 on your 2V shortblock).
These are 4V B heads, which the general consensus is that they require boost to be worth much.
The Mark VIII engine has runner controls that the Mustang doesn't (have to be deleted).
Stock for stock, there's about a 20hp difference between the two engines.
The good news is that this would be an all aluminum engine, with a Teksid block. If you have the desire to build something a bit meaner, it's a good starting point (though I find a set of C heads and an intake to match personally).
