Questions Mark 8 swapp

I think the mark vlll was an aluminum block/heads like the cobra engine, sounds like a good swap to me. I think there was some swap issues with some cranks not drilled for a pilot bearing but I'm no modular melvin so I'll move this to a forum with some more experienced members.

Some things to consider:

  • The 4V heads have a larger combustion chamber (51cc vs 42cc), enough to drop your compression ratio by about a point (roughly 8.2:1 on your 2V shortblock).
  • These are 4V B heads, which the general consensus is that they require boost to be worth much.
  • The Mark VIII engine has runner controls that the Mustang doesn't (have to be deleted).
  • Stock for stock, there's about a 20hp difference between the two engines.

The good news is that this would be an all aluminum engine, with a Teksid block. If you have the desire to build something a bit meaner, it's a good starting point (though I find a set of C heads and an intake to match personally).
