Quick Brake Question

Hey Everybody,
I have to admit that it has been a while since I've been on here...my stang has been running fine, and I haven't done anything to it in a while. Well I'm coming up on a week-off of work, and decided that it's time for the brakes to be changed. The pads are cake, and I am not worried about them at all. My question is more about the bleeding of the brake fluid though. Is bleeding the fluid absolutely necessary...what is suggested?? I'm hoping to tackle the this project tomorrow, so any help would be nice. I've also attempted to do a "search" for this info. but there are too many threads!! (Sorry, I'm lazy!!). Anyways, thanks for the help all!!

no, you don't need to bleed them unless you've opened the bleeder screw. just take the cap off the reservoir before you compress the piston

if the brake fluid is over 2-3yrs old or has some mileage like 20-30K on it then i would go ahead and replace teh fluid by doing a brake flush

Nah, I'm not going to do a brake flush, I'll just compress the piston with the master cylinder cap off & see how the pedal feels. If it feels way too squishy, then I'll have to bleed them, if not, then I'll just live with it. Thanks for the replies though, I appreciate it!

What color is the fluid?

Anything other than clear i would bleed.

You should bleed every 2-3 years anyway, but i do mine every year. My fluid in my GT was BLACK after just 2 years. I did a full flush and the pedal felt GREAT!
