quick cam question

As some of you read, my motor is coming out tomorrow to be rebuilt because of a worn seal. While its out i'm going to have a little fun in the form of porting the heads and intake, putting on a new clutch, doing smog and AC delete, and throwing in a cam.

My have a few questions about what cam to get. I am split between the 2031 and the TFW stage 1. I know the 2031 has great driveability with our computers and that its a good midrange cam. I know its made for 1.7's, and u dont have to change pushrods on the cobra motor.

What i want to know about the TFS cam is basically all of the above. Where is its powerange, how is driveability, would i have to change pushrods, can it work well with 1.7's, etc. Lastly what is the wow factor like in both of these cams? How does the car sound when it idles?

They say as long as the lobe seperation is above 110, it'll be ok with the computer but i don't know how accurate that is.

i'm happy with the stage 1 cam. i would say its more of a higher rpm power range. but since you have the 1.7's and the other cam is designed to work with them it might be the better choice. you could use the stage 1 cam with the 1.7's but you'll have to check piston to valve clearance. i've heard good things about both the stage 1 cam and the crane cam grinds. i posted my dyno sheet so you could get an idea of the power range on the stage 1 cam. my combo is in my sig and my full parts list is in my garage.

thanks for the dyno sheet man. I am planning on replacing the valvesprings and timing chain while im in there. Is there anything else i should replace like lifters or retainers? motor has 97K miles.

I replaced my lifters with some stock replacement ones from summit for $120 just to be on the safe side.

Each combo is unique and they all can act differently after its all said & done.

Some folks who say they have no issues are more tolerate than others.

The 110lsa is only a rule of thumb kinda thing. I've seen some combos that were above the 110 value who had issues.

Just about any kind of combo can be made to behave if you have enough patience to work with the pcm values.

Just a few things I've seen from time to time on these sites.
