Quick connect problems

I'm in the process of replacing my fuel pump, but i am having trouble getting the quick connect fittings off. I have the tools, but i put them in and pull on the line and nothing. It comes out slightly but it doesn't come all the way off.
Any suggestions on how to get this off? My car has been parked for a while and this is the last piece of the puzzle!!!!!! please help i wanna hear my baby run!!!!!

Ha Ha. The Quick Disconnect is the biggest misnomer in history. Trust me, your problems are not unusual. Virgin quick disconnects are just a bastard. You really have to mess with them a lot till they pop. Try pushing the quick disconnect together when you insert the tool as far as you can, then pull them apart. Some tools are better than others. I prefer the white plastic Lisle ones that come on the 6 pack strip.

That's because it's a quick connect, not disconnect. They snap together in no time!! You're right though, the simple plastic ring style are the easiest to use and seem to work the best. I have a couple of the service tech style from Ford, they're a spring-loaded clamshell that covers the whole cage.... but they are a major PITA to use, too big and bulky.

I used to work for a company that made the tooling and machines to produce tube end-fittings, and the male and female spring lock connectors were two of the more common jobs, along with basic double flares. The automakers like them because they work great in an assembly line environment for quick assembly without needing tools.
