quick quick question about turbo downpiping.

first off, i would have asked this at turbo mustangs but something is going on with my account name. I am building a single turbo setup with a powerstroke turbo and i was wodnering about the downpiping. Now at first i thought that after the turbo the exhaust split and ran back to each side of the engine and then seperately went to the h pipe or whatever. But could you just run a fat 3 inch pipe down one side only then cross over once you are under the car?

i know this is a wrong place to ask the question but i am dying to know.
