Quick ? Red-line on 94-95 Cobra's

6250 is the fuel cut out. I would say actual redline would be a little lower than that. Probably more like 5800rpm.
 
BS. I hit mine at 6250. Redline per the guage on a '94/95 Cobra is 5800, fuel shutoff IS 6250 on J4J1, T4M0, and U4P0 computers. This has been proven fairly well, ask any TwEECer user what their stock rev limit scalar was (not what it is now lol).

The only difference in redline on the Cobra and GT motor is that the GT has a yellow line starting a few hundred RPM before 5800 before it turns red, and the Cobra goes straight red at 5800.

Ford never would have let you rev a 5.0 to 7000, there's no reason to anyway. Even with the GT40 heads and Cobra intake it falls on its nose before 6000. I doubt the bolt-down rockers would like that very much.
 
i can tell you for a fact that my car will rev all the way to the end of the rpm gauge without hitting the limiter! also there was even an article in the July issue of 5.0 Mustangs and superfords! Pg.124 24th line down in the first collum! check it out. and like i said mine has reved all the way to 7000 rpm when doing a burnout before!

it might just be the GT's and not the cobras but I'm not sure on that!

If that was 7K on a stock tach then it's probably not right. Besides at 7k rpm you would probably be floating the valves like crazy. The stock valvetrain would not handle that kind of RPM without valve float. My stock GT with the T-5 and T4M0 computer would hit the fuel shut off just past 6K on the stock tach which is about right for the 6250rpm shut off.
 
Hmm, TFI ignition doesn't do so hot past 6500 RPM, neither do stamped bolt-down rocker arms. But OK.

BTW that same issue of that mag is the one that mis-informed people that SN95 5.0's would have to swap to an A9L to do any H/C/I swap because our computers are too sensitive for mods. More BS. Go on believing everything that magazine (or its advertisers to be more exact) tells you (along with what your stock tach tells you). My subscriptions ran out, and not because I forgot to pay, because I was sick of being fed a bunch of bull.

If you have revved that high something is wrong with your PIP in your dizzy usually. I had a ranger with exactly that problem and it did see over 6500 RPM a couple of times (seized a rocker arm as a result, the oil pump couldn't keep up with the shaft mounted mickey-mouse setup Ford had on the 2.9.).

During my first dyno tune we checked the stock rev limiter, on a semi stock cobra my rev limiter was set at 6500 (I was told that was modified from 6250), the fuel shut off was at 6250, valve float occurs on stock Gt40 heads at approx. 6180. So the 7k rev limit was after someone tuned it in.
The car stock had a hard time getting to 6250.
 
SVTCobra306, You say that the magazines feed us crap but it wasn't the magazine claiming that 7k was where the rev limiter is it was the guy who owns the car and drives it to those rpm's with out any sort of tune on it(don't know how he could do that if what your saying is true). Also for what it is worth I don't have the stock valve train. no my valve train is probably not set up for that rpm range under load but it handled it during the burnout without any valve float!

Reading the article they're saying he shifts at 7500 on a stock tune. No Freakin' way. The only motor I've revved that high with a stock computer in it was a carb'd 89 LX (the stock A9P was in there but not hooked to anything :P)

As for valve float, unless it's really bad or you have one hell of a calibrated ear, you usually won't notice it especially during a burnout. It's more prominent under acceleration because the car will buck a little at the beginning of valve float (and if you don't react, valves and pistons get very friendly).

Mine starts to float a tad at 6500. Haven't revved past that. And thats with springs shimmed to a 375 lb open pressure. The lobes on my cam bounce the heavy roller lifters that high. Not worried about it, I shift at 6000 in 1st and 5800 all others anyway. I tickle my 6400 MSD rev-limit at the very end of my burnout at the strip, but otherwise never even see over 6000. No reason to on a street motor.

My car would shoot over 6000 pretty easy when she was stock, the gears helped that a lot. Like I said, I did bounce the factory rev limit one time, but never again. Absolutely no reason to let it rev that high. I was young and dumb and newer to the car, now I can control the revs and back out of the throttle with the tires spinning and don't even touch the MSD rev limiter unless I want it to (I do it at the track because it sounds kinda cool, and for the little bit of intimidation factor, at the small track I raced at it the crowd would cheer for a show off!).
