Race suspension set up..

I have around 550bhp going through a c4.. Im gonna want this car to launch hard but still have good street manners. 4 link/Ladder bar is out due to cost..

What would be a good suspension set up for a weekend warrior? I plan on sticking with my 28X10.5 tires.

Im thinking 6 cyl springs.. and Monoleaf springs out back?

Look up Calvert Racing and their Cal-Trac Bars. Bolt on and they also have mono leafs and aluminum front bushings designed for your car. Light springs up front and 90/10 shocks, you'll probably also want to install some travel limiters as well. Gearing?

I doubt you'll need the limiters with such a high (ratio) gear.

Stall is a 2800 Daaco converter.. Gonna get a built C4 from Performance Automatics

Okay, you shouldn't need the travel limiters. We've got a full tilt PA C4 in the '68 drag car with a Trans Specialties converter, 4500 stall I think. did you order that converter for your combo?

Next converter we get will be a Neal Chance bolt together, which is what we should have gotten last time, you learn though.

Go with the 6 front spring and remove the front swaybar as well.

If you change the inside pivot of the lower arm to a spherical bearing, put in some roller bearing spring perches and adjustable strut rods the front end will come up quicker. I don't drag race but I know folks that do.

Hey 1320 stang, I was just wondering what those travel limiters were all about? And why you would want to do that. I have a 70 mach that I'm trying to get hooked up. I have the caltracs with stock rear leafs. But I know it needs some front susp work. I think I have big block front springs in mine (were in it when I bought it) All new front susp but I think I need to change out the springs. Any suggestions?? Any help would be appreciated.

When you pull a wheelie, the travel limiters limit the amount that the front wheels will extend down. It sorta keeps the car from trying to "roll over backwards" and when it comes to the top of the travel, sorta plants the rear tires as it has stopped the transfer of weight. It's a tuning agent really, and an inexpensive one at that, sorta like clamping your leafs.

In your case, I'd look into putting some Moroso Springs up front. Have you removed the front sway bar?

Yep, sway bar=gone. Where do you get these limiters?? I do think my next step is getting the moroso springs but the only thing that worries me is getting the ride height set like I want with them.

because of cost, i suggest a good 5 leaf spring, caltracs, and some rancho 2000 shocks. That setup has seen low 10s in the 1/4

Okay, lets see if this works. One end is attached to the chassis, the other, to a control arm. I think you can see how you could easily make a set. These are competition engineering's and run about $53 from Jeg's or Summit.

These are Art Morrison's and run about $45.

OT - How is that PA C4 holding up? Should be a little over a year old now right? It's the super comp w/ brake a rev man. VB right?

I run a 2500 stall in a C4 that will stall to around 3K and 3:70 gears, no brake on tranny in a 66 coupe. I run 620lb springs, no sway bar, 5 leafs and Hoosier 9.0X15X26 and I'm hitting 1.62 short times and I think I am most likely at the edge of my traction limit. I don't have any traction bars but I am going to go to a 3800 stall and 4:11's and a brake which will most likely force me into more tire or maybe try some cal tracs.

Shoot, it sat a year before it had fluid in it. You saw its only runs at WFC. It's a great tranny and should bring several years of great service. We need to get rid of the mini-spool and the 28 spline axles before we can use the transbrake though. But yes, its the bad boy that they sell, ship it back to them every year for a free freshening up. It's their Super Comp tranny and Kevin picked it up at WFC6 for far less than their current price of $2400.

Look through my photos and you can see something close to this on the one I'm building. I have made some limiters but cant hook them up until I drop the motor back in. The shocks arent long enough to bolt back in with no weight on it....lol

I WANT !! I WANT !! I WANT !! Where can I get those. I just installed a set of perches and thought they were very stiff, but never saw anything else. I have also resorted to 6 cyl springs since know seems to make them for a SB. Anyone can PM my with any info PLEASE.
