Radar detector problem

I just purchased a passport 8500 x50. Most of the time when I go WOT the detector will go off laser at full force. I don't understand why this is happening and I was wondering if anyone can help me with this?

Hmmm, how often does this happen, I.E. how often are you at WOT? is it pluged into your 12v outlet? or hardwired?

It is plugged into my 12 volt outlet and I don't think it is defective because when I borrowed my friends it would also happen , his was the x50 also. It doesn't do this every time but I already know that it is aggravating.
