Radiator fan help

When I got to work today my car blew it's top. Since I had just gotten off the Interstate and went about another 5 miles to work I'm guessing it was OK until I started stopping for lights. It overheated but I was able to get to the parking lot.

Now...I looked to see if the fan was running. It is not...it is fairly new, about 5-6 months old. I pulled the harness and jumped it and it will run. I then checked the fuse and it is good. Anyone have an idea why the fan will not come on when the car is running?

Is there a relay for the fan or just a fuse. Crap...I ususlly keep my Haynes in the car and I must have left it at home.

Also...

Would the module cause the fan not to run? Most of the problems found when I searched is the fan wouldn't shut off.

OK...

Now I've figured out how to test and here is what I have.

I get voltage briefly from the low voltage side of the fan wire. The high voltage works as normal when the A/C is on BUT when I plug the harness into the fan it runs fan kinds of pulses and then turns off. Once the AC is off the fan will not run. I test the wire again and it shows voltage for a second on the low side and goes to zero. I'm guessing the relays in the CCRM are acting up?

When I tested it the low speed relay kicks on but only briefly. I get constant voltage from the high speed relay but the pulse in the fan has me puzzled. It's some sort of magnetic issue I believe. I think the voltage is surging causing the magnetic field to pulsate in the coil of the fan.

I think I can get a new one for a little over 100 bucks but I want to make sure this is the problem 1st. I don't think anything melted or I would be having more problems with the other components it controls. The thing is riveted shut so obviously they want you to have to buy the whole module. I can't find which pins control the low speed fan though. Ive found which ones are for the AC clutch but since I'm not having issues with that or the fuel pump those relays are good. I can alway wire a switch and turn the fan on whenever I want but I don't want to rig it until I've exhausted all other routes and I can't find a new one.

i wish i knew more about the 96-98 electrical system

a few 94/95 guys have cut open the CCRM and replaced the relays in there instead of buying a new one

I'd prefer to do that but I don't know if they are plug in or soldered.

Would a bad coolant temp sensor keep the fan from coming on?

The left side I get an open circuit but the right side I get resistance. Anyone know which side is for the idiot light and which one actually contacts the computer?

most likely it's a bad ccrm.. you may also want to check live data and see what the coolant temp is.

I changed the coolent temp sensor but no change. I'm going to swap out a CCRM and see if that is the problem. I also removed the cover from the CCRM but nothing I can see is amiss. From what I read the low speed relay and high speed relay are separate. I'm guessing the LS is the one messed up although yesterday I couldn't get the fan to run at all. I jumped it again but the fan runs with the pulse I mentioned. I don't know what to make of that.

So now this pisses me off...

I bought a used CCRM on Ebay and installed it today. Cranked the car and waited for it to come up to operating temp. Still no fan so I reached down to make sure the wire harness was secure to the fan and as I wiggled the connector of the fan it came on. I moved it a bit again and it shut off. So the problem is in the connector. The damn piece of junk is made in Taiwan and only 6 months old. I didn't have a choice since this was the only one I could find in stock when I bought it. I'm fed up with this inferior crap from overseas.
