Seems to me that AM makes a bezel that angles the gauges toward you.

The photo really doesn't show it clearly. If you look closely at the picture for the back side of the gauges, it's the thick red wire (on the right most gauge, at the bottom.) This is essesntially my primary source wire for the gauges. I used one side of the fuse lead to tap into the 12 IGN, which put the fuse between all three gauges and the rest of the car. The other side of the fuse lead ties into the three gauges (follow the red wires in the photo). That way, the fuse burns up before any of the gauges.


The GND wires are all tied together the same way. I used black wire so it doesn't show up in the picture very well.

what size fuse are you thinking of running? looks good btw. I plan on getting a plastic laminate so I can just relocate the hvac on the bottom then the gauges then the stereo on top. I've seen it done before and I will have to extend some wires for the hvac but a clean installation like the one you did will make it easier.

Autometer recommends a 4A fast burn fuse. The closest that I had in my tool box of electrical goodies was a 7.5A one. Today, I am going to pick up the "Tee" for the sender and the correct size fuse.

The panel relocation project should be fun...

Looks awesome man. I had gauges on my a-pillar , but pulled them because I didn't like that location, but that looks almost stock. Oh and had 1amp fast blow fuses in my gauges and never had one blow on me.

UPDATE: Gauge Sending units installed

I got all three of my senders hooked up and wired between yesterday and today. I can now read the actual temperature of my coolant or my Oil pressure. It's so cool (to me at least )

Readings taken after 30 minutes @ idle in my garage
Water Temp - 180 Degrees
Oil Pressure - 25PSI
Oil Temperature - 210 Degrees

Here is yet another picture of my gauges (this time with readings)

Next up for the winter is my FRPP oil cooler. If the mail man ever decides to deliever it that is.

AWESOME! You just solved the mystery of where I wanna put my leftover Autometer triple-gauge cluster - had to pull them off the dash to make room for the Shift-Lite tach, and was dreading the idea of blowing $75 on a pillar gauge frame. Heck, I may just fab one out of some sheetmetal (maybe cut out of one of my drip pans) and spray it with some truck bedliner to give it some proper texture/color...

I am going to bring this thread back from the dead. I just recieved my radio/gauge plate from Custom Performance this afternoon. It's a pretty cool piece can't wait to get it installed. I wanted to ask Srothfuss what he thinks about the gauge placement now that you have had them a while? Are they easy to read down there? I am debating wherther or not I want to mount the radio on top or put the gauges up higher.

Well the water/oil temp and oil pressure shouldnt change rapidly, so you wont have to keep staring at it.

I like them at the bottom, but I might switch it just to see how that works.

Srothfuss-Can I wire a 5amp fuse from the power wire that goes to my CD player?
Or will the CD player blow the fuse?

The only wire thats easy to get to is the power for the CD.

Thats looks really good man. Here is another place that I think I am gonna get my setup from. Scroll down a little and take a look at their complete replacement panel. I am gonna get the one with the radio at top, gauges in the middle, and hvac controls at the bottom.

Guy's sorry that I missed this thread. I was in Hawaii when you were asking questions. If you still haven't installed your stuff yet, I'll add the following.



The Shape:
Gauge placement is a total preference. I am still adjusting to having my gauges down there, but I can see them just by clancing over at them. The gauges are big enough to read while driving. So far, I love them!

My fuse is also wired into the 12V source from the radio. It should be fine

Just an update on my work over the winter: Today I spent the afternoon installing my brass 3 core radiator and some pullies from BBK. It was a great day!

Do you have an upgraded alternator??

B/C with the stock alternator and underdrive pulleys my car doesnt charge very well at idle. The Voltage is around 9-11V at Idle... And the lights dim.

Not yet... I will be switching to a 160A or 200A (?) in a couple weeks so that I can compinstate for the underdriven pulley. This will also allow me to switch out my waterpump driven fan and use my markViii fan. It should be a great summer!
