Radio Filter (Where to buy or measure)

Does anyone know where I can buy the radio filter for our cars? Mine has been missing for a while and I want my radio back. It's so bad I only can use CDs.

Can someone provide a source to purchase? Either that or could someone measure the capacitance of the capacitor so I could just make my own?

I'd prefer the latter.

It's basically whenever I turn the car on the radio goes off. (Not literally) I just get no reception anywhere. Could it be a bad ground? Where are all the radio grounds located?

You can buy one at most part stores or even best buy. However it is possible you have a bad ground. Mine did the same thing. When you turn on you turn signal do your lights dim when your flasher clicks? If so, its quite possible that you have a bad ground.

There's a ground strap on the passenger side of the hood (at the cowl). This is for the antenna reception.

Are you talking about the noise suppression capacitor mounted to the coil bracket? Half the Fords out there have them - You could grab one at a J/Y.

Hissin is right, check that ground strap and also you can get that capaciter at any autoparts store, they are usually a dollor or so and some change.

FWIW if you have removed the hood heat shield you will lose radio reception. On the back side of the shield is an aluminum foil blanket to eliminate EMI. This is what the grounding strap Hissin referenced is connected to.

Correctimundo.

While helping with noise supression, the hood being grounded (including the blanket) itself improves the ground plane (for even distribution). This helps F/R reception.

Ok. How can I emulate that? I have a fiberglass hood so i have no hood lining or hood strap.

So many people remove the blankets (for aesthetics or the same reason you did) that it should not matter that much. It sounds like your issue is really really bad.

I'd check the antenna mounting plane ground, add a motor to chassis ground, sheetmetal to neg battery ground, and see if it improves. Grab a little cap too.

Been there done that. I had to reinstall the blanket to get radio reception back.

Mine was removed to address a few clearance issues with the KB. However, I was able to identify the contact points and cut those sections out of the blanket.

The OEM hoods on the 94-94 are a composit material.
