Yes, it's on a slab. Going up 4.25 feet. They dig under the house with shovels. The main carport where my Saleen is is going up too. The other with the GT500 and 66 is not. My plan is to be here when they begin the actual raising of the house but I'm starting my new job soon so I don't know how much I'll get to witness
First day.

Getting closer every month, apparently. Are you close to the coast?
C'mon man I was serious..... LIving in Florida the people who live on the coast here have to be crazy.... Your about 2 feet above sea level.... Back home in Oregon at least you were up on a cliff usually.. Worked out really good for getting your windows sandblasted.........
So are they separating the roofs so that the part over the 66 becomes more like a carport, or are they leaving it intact and putting some type of 4.25' header on top of the post?

We are about 150 miles from the coast but only about 40 miles from Lake Maurepas and Lake Ponchatrain. All the rivers around here drain that way so when a storm hits it backs up water. In 2016 we had about 30+ inches of rain in 3 days. Water had no place to go.Are you close to the coast?
The carport where the 66 is will go up with the house while the concrete stays. So they will replace the posts with taller ones. That is on an addition to the our house where my dad lives. It's a little apartment we had built for him. The carport on the main house will be lifted with the rest of the house and will have an incline driveway to access.
To raise it they use a series of hydraulic jacks. Near as I can tell they dig tunnels to place the jacks in precise places and use a diesel engine to run the hydraulics. Once in the air they install I-beams to be the main support and a locking pier system they drive into the ground with the jacks. There a few houses around here that have been raised, a lot of them after Katrina. When we moved here we were in a non hazardous (500 year) flood zone. In 2012, FEMA changed the maps and we are now in a special flood zone A. All of the house construction they do around here now is hauling in a bunch of dirt and build houses on the mounds. That just pushes water on those of us who were above basic flood elevation 30 years ago when this house was built but it's below the flood elevation now by 2 feet.
They have tunneled pretty far under the house now. I'm tempted to hop in a hole and take a look but its pretty muddy. I'll have to see if it dries out the next few days. Will look something like this.

It's like crawling into a cave. They have tunneled 12-15 feet in some places. Today they were locking in the piers to hold the house in place while the dig. I literally felt the couch drop a few times when the positioned the blocks. Now the front door won't lock without lifting up on it. Glad they have a million in insurance.

I'd do that if they didn't charge an inspection fee.Call an exterminator and tell them you have an urgent mole problem, and to get here as soon as possible!
A friend asked me if they were tunneling to Mexico. I told him could be because all I hear all day is Mariachi music.
They start the lift Tuesday. I have to work so I don't know how much I'll be able to watch. Lift takes a day and the backfill the next day. We should be back into the house Thursday.

I would definitely be calling off work while the house is being raised! If it breaks in half, I want to be there to see it!
Maybe I'm just slightly paranoid or something, but I always plan on being at home when there is major work going on.

I would but I just started this job last week and I took off a couple of hours for a doctor's appointment already. Not a good start.I would definitely be calling off work while the house is being raised! If it breaks in half, I want to be there to see it!
