Okay, I still can't beleive this myself. The other day I was just out for a leisurely drive. An oriental kid and his buddy pull up next to me at a red light, (this doesn't happen often, I'm usually at the wrong place at the wrong time). He asks me what's under the hood, and if I want to run for fun. I obliged and we took off when the light when green. Now I don't know if it was lousy reaction time by the driver if the Viper but I had a good car length on this guy. I shifted out of 2nd at 6500 RPM's and backed off in third at 85 mph. A second later he blew by me. Now I don't know if he would have got me through third but I most defintely owned him.

My flywheel horsepower might be about 425 - 450. The Pro Bullet defintely picked up some power as it broke in and I'm ready to advance the timing and gain even some more.

Why do you think I beat a GTS? Are you surprised, or do modified Mustangs just flat out kick ass?

Oh that's defintely on my list...my goal is 500 RWHP. What supercharger and intercooler do you recommend.

By the way does anyone know the stock horsepower and wieght of a Viper GTS.

Also, please be advised that this is not bull****.

Hmmm not really. Vipers lately have gone down my list of "feared" cars. Dont get me wrong they are fast and sweet, but not with the average owner.

Its still a lot of bragging cause im sure on paper its not supposed to win. But with us launching correctly, theres not much that can keep up.(after we are modded with h/c/i ofcourse!)

Vipers run what... 11's in stock form? Which is good since this is an all-out sports car and not a drag racer. My friend beats them all the time with his Turbocoupe (408 stroker pushing 480HP).

I'm not suprised but he will have a higher top speed, however top speed racing on public roads isn't very smart :D

My dad has a 96 GTS. I drove it and i didn't feel it lived up to it's name. Don't get me wrong, we smoke the crap out of Porsche 911's and we have destroyed a good deal of Mustangs but it's overrated. The kid across the street from me has a 95 Mustang GT with 350 horse's to the rear wheels and he runs high low 12's to high 11's on slicks so it's very possible that you beat him. My dad is a beast in it. He definitely knows how to drive it but like 87AODGT said, most guys that can afford these things don't know what they're doing in them. Some guy my dad sees all the time has a 911 and he thinks it has 650 horsepower stock. He didn't even know if it was turbocharged or supercharged. Nice kill!

Viper's are really fast production cars, but not invincable. They run mid 12's in stock form, the new one's run low 12's, a DSS 331 on AFR heads with supporting components should take one out. A buddy of mine went agains a V12 Farrari about two weeks ago, he pulled to the light and was just looking at it and the driver started laughing at him with a big cigar in his mouth. He said he said "Nice POS, ready for a spanking" My buddy had just so happeded to havebottle filled and open at the time. They said he put a good distance on him off the line then sprayed to add insult to injury.

Stock Viper, z06, Farrari, Lambo, ect. They all have one thing in common, they are bought speed, the car win's raced the driver just drives it. Anyone with the money or just good credit could own one. It takes a little more to build one.

well said

At the track last weekend, some guy - about 25 years old, had a GTS with the $8000 paxton supercharger (includes cooler) and a 50 hp shot of NOS. He ran a 11.21 et on BFG drag rads.. can't recall his exact mph. Needless to say the thing moved and all his r/t's were over 1.2 seconds. I just couldn't believe the guy was about 25 yrs. w/ a viper.

First I want to say congrats on beating a viper, thats sweet. I cant wait till I get my pony going so i can try that :nice: . Any way here is some specs on a 2002 GTS :

Max. Power [Bhp at rpm] 460 at 5200 450 at 5200
Max. Torque [lb-ft (Nm) at rpm] 500 (678) at 3700 490 (664) at 3700

thats a really sweet car you beat..give yourself a pat on the back :) of course we'll never know what would've happened if it was on the track, but you still handed a Viper it's a$$ & thats something to be proud of :nice:

A stock Viper GTS is a sports car and not designed for off-the-line performance. In a real race on a real road course, they are quick and reliable performers. From there, it's up to the driver.

Modified Mustangs, Camaros, and so on, if built right will hand a stock Viper GTS a good spanking. However, that said, like any hot rodder, if a little power is good, a little more is better. A modified Viper is just plain awesome and are built from the factory to take quite a bit of abuse.

I've beaten and have been beaten by modified Vipers. So, be careful out there kids. :D

NA306/Custom AFR 165 heads...thanks AFR! /Custom Ed Curtis/FTI cam, lightweight pushrods, guidance & assistance...thanks Ed! /Computer and dyno tuning from Lidio Iacobelli/Alternative Auto Performance...thanks Lidio! /Skinny Kid Race Cars 10-pt cage
Suspension...Max. Motorsports front/Griggs Racing TA/Watts-link/Baer 13" discs F/R
2700lbs w/driver & fuel
Max. HP: 375@6600/Max. Torque: 332@5600
Best times w/ 275 R18 Kumho VictoRacers:
11.37 @ 122.6
60ft @ 1.58sec

Now that's what I'm talking about. Pure built speed. I bet they hate it when they loose to a "little" N/A V8, not even stroked. :nice:

I'll play devil's advocate - between reaction time and driver error (who knows what the other guy was doing) - I'd say you didn't beat a Viper; I'd say you outran it's driver - and even at that, just for a little while. I suspect even had you stayed in it, he was just about to come by you in a big way. I wouldn't go too crazy patting myself on the back -- at your HP/torque level, you just got lucky. But, good for you.
