Rant.... Wannabe mustang mechanics

When I bought my mustang I thought it was a llittle down on power.
It had a slight miss under hard acceleration amd just felt weak.
The car has 177k on it so I wasnt too worried about it with those miles I figgured it is bound to be a little tired.

I decided today would be a good day for a tune up.

The wires were Bosh Ultra Premium wires. I had a set of those when I had my 87 and they have a lifetime warranty through autozone. FREEBIE!!

So I yank all the wires out and pull the cap and rotor. It has Autozone premium cap and rotor with teh brass or copper inserts its ate up. But hey Not bad so far. At least they bought the better autozone stuff.

It needed a new cap and rotor so I figgured Id buy that same cap and rotor at autozone since I was going there to get my free wires.

Next pull a plug and see if they need gapped or replaced.

I pull the #5 plug since its easy to reach and out comes a trapazoid looking igniter like I have never saw before.
I look at it and it says E3.

Now for the RANT:

Why in the world would someone waste there money on some thing like this.
You cant gap them and theres no way it was gapped right for our cars.

If you want to work on your own cars at least use the right parts. I bet the car never did run right every since those pluge were in it.

Now off to teh Zone:

They cant find my warranty for my free wires.

I gave them my old phone number and told em they were fer an 87 moostang.

AUTOZONE SPECIALIST: nope you never bought them here.

ME: check again cause I know for a FACT I did inded buy em here.

AUTOZONE SPECIALIST:: Nope not here cause it not in my puter.

ME: Well we all know puters are never wrong. So run the part number through under all my parts with LLW.

AUTOZONE SPECIALIST: I cant do that.

ME: UM yes , yes you can. ya just dont know how. so go ask somebody.

AUTOZONE SPECIALIST: Somewhat frustrated, hastily goes to other PC and looked said part number up, Then gets help and they figgured out how to does the search under my list of LLW parts from old cars I had over the years.

AUTOZONE SPECIALIST: says OH HERE IT IS
its under a plymouth breeze.
I didnt know plymouth breeze taks same wyires as a 5.0 mootang!

Me: They dont. You guys obviously put it under teh wrong car.

AUTOZONE SPECIALIST: Naw I dont see how that could be. Ill go get the box and make sure. **AUTOZONE SPECIALIST goes and gets said box. Opens said box and TADA! an 8 cyc wire set.**

AUTOZONE SPECIALIST: HUH I guess we did mess that up. Wellp here you go: **AUTOZONE SPECIALIST takes new wires out of box and puts them in old wallyworld sack I had brought with old wires in it.**

ME: Nope I want that there purdy box to take with me.

AUTOZONE SPECIALIST: Umm Okay.

I order up sum Motorcraft spark plugs and a cap and rotar and hit the road.

Now teh mootang runs 100% better power is back and I got freee wires!

WHy would he take them out of the box and throw them in the bag??

I hate going to AZ. Usually i just look up the part number online and give it to them when i get there.

If you bought warranty parts for two different cars at the same time, even if they register the warranties seperate, when they go to the register and the warranty comes up it gives them the choice of which vehicle to select the warranty for, and they can only select one, no matter which vehicle they select the warranty for both parts goes under the one car they select. That's probably why they were under a different car. Next time they don't know what they are doing in the warranty look up screen tell them to hit F9, it shows ALL warranty parts bought, even expired ones, and it lists them by part number, not vehicle.

Don't ask me why the system is like that, I think its stupid.

sounds like a typical trip to autozone to me,lol, some of the people that work there are just idiots. I worked there for awhile and the reason the guy took the wires out of the box is because when anything is brought in that is under a warrenty, the new part is taken out of its box and the old part is put in the box and a yellow sticker that says "return to DC" (distribution center) is stuck on the box and it is then put in a big bin that was picked up every tuesday at the one I worked at. I'm excited that I actually know somthing about the subject I just wish the subject was cooler.

P.S. horrible place to work ha ha

Exactially, also the box has the part number and brand on it. I'm suprised they gave it to you.

Well when I bought the original wires It came with teh box. My 87 already had Bosh ultra premuims on it when I bought it but I had no warranty info. SO I bought another set. Installed them on teh car and took the old ones back in teh box and got a new set in the box to put in my stash. So I always had a new set on hand.

I wanted the box so I could tape the reciept to it and put it with my other mootang stuf that has warranty. It makes it easy to keep track of. I Write date on box and once a year go back and get replaced.

Now we know why. It makes the warranty easier for them. I wanted teh box for my warranty replacement later on. I have a shelf I keep teh boxes on for quick referance.

Man, i would not complain about that ordeal at all! When i got my car it ran fine but after a while it started to develop a miss then only ran on 7 cylinders. there was also a loud ticking that sounded like an exhaust valve. I figured it was the valve sticking, or god forbid some blown rings or something. Took it to the mechanic to confirm that it was in fact the cylinder i thought before i tore it apart, in his diagnosis he took off a valve cover and found the problem... the damn previous owner had installed CHEVY valve keepers on the E7 head!! One of them had come loose and slid upwards proceding to be SMASHED onto the valve by the rocker. Thank god it never dropped the valve into the cylinder! Got her all fixed up now tho, runs mint.

I went to summitracing and looked up e 3 plugs.
They only list them for a 93 cobra with a 302. This leads me to think that they were meant for gt40 heads and not for the 302 with e7 heads. Not sure if the gt 40 uses differnt plugs....

5.99 each ... what ever!

lol one time at canadian tire I was asked by the guy at the counter if my 88 mustang "GT" was a 4cyl, 6cyl, or 8cyl. I said 8cyl. he then asked me if it was a 3.0L or a 4.6L...I said it's a 5.0L 302. then he said oh this computer dosn't list it.. I said check again...then he asked if it was 4 wheel drive lol I only wanted a set of spark plugs so I just walked out and went to NAPA and just told them I want 8 autolite 35's. done

I went there to get something for my transmission. Guy looked it up on the computer and a list of parts came up. He kept talking about one of the parts on the list (call it part #3) but I was pretty sure that what I needed was the one below it. I asked him about #4 "no, it's this one" he said. "yeah, okay whatever, i'm pretty sure its this part. Heck its my transmission, its my car." I said.
"no, its this one" he replied.
So he got the manager to make sure. Sure enough manager comes over and says that the part I need is the one I was pointing to. People just tick me off when they think they know something about your car when they drive an Acura or something.

How were you making 500 a week? My 19yr old manager didnt even make that much.

I used to work there a few years back and it sucked. I never pretended to know everything about every car. Our store motto was if you dont know you dont know, dont go around giving wrong advice, we had a good crew at one point believe it or not. Now the store is full of dumbasses like the rest of them. I used let the customer pick the part, if they got the wrong one it was their fault or the computers fault.

Another favorite question was '2wd or 4wd' , Well I'm getting a headlight.

Gripes as an AZ employee:

What Kind of car is it Ma'am?, "I dont know, its blue." (The car was always blue!)

Saturn owners dont ever know what kind of Saturn they drive, if they do break out the fckin confetti and baloons! Hallelujah!

I loved when customers sat a battery on the counter and only said, 'I have a battery.' , What about it?

The chevy guys were the worst, they'd bust though the door and say 'CHEVY TRUCK!' What kind of truck (you hillbilly)? Is it a Tahoe, Silverado, Avalanche, S10, Blazer, Suburban, is it a 1500, 2500... 2WD, dually, engine? What year is this CHEVY TRUCK?

And they used to do the same thing with the 350, 'CHEVY 350!' So...is it a LT1, a 70's 350, do you want an exhaust manifold for a Tahoe or a Vette? Whats it in!

I dont have much against Chevys, its the people who drive them.

i work at a parts store too and most older people are *******s they dont want to give u any info!!!!!! "i need a starter for my chevy" me: "is it staggered or in line?" them " stock"

How much do AZ employees typically make?

I was thinking of a part-time job, maybe 2 nights a week or one weekend day in addition to my normal 40 hour week career.

Then again i might get in a fight with someone.

"Yo, i have a 2003 Ford Mustang GT with the V6 high-output turbo engine, give me some Bosch +4's for mad tite HP"

Oh yes...the first time i hear that i would go off
