so i am getting ready to get all my stuff out of my 93 to swap the 5 speed into my 89.

i had an issue where sometimes i would pull the car out of 5th to down shift and the shifter would get real hard and bind. if i put it back in the motion of 5th and wiggled it back down to the neutral position it would free up.

well ill have the trans out so i said let me get a rebuild kit for it. i called 3 different shops they want 8-1g even if they do it on the bench and give it back and sk speed who does direct swaps wont have any transmissions till late march. i dont get it no one wants to make money i mean 5-6 i would have no problem spending but 1g . your a transmission shop and i dont want to rebuild a transmission. i dont get it . i would do it myself but i dont like doing it i did it once and its just not my strong point.

perhaps its not a big money maker. The profit may just not be there for them. Sounds like thier bread and butter is likely warranty work .

That's what I've always found too. When someone doesn't want to do the work, the price goes up.

S&K Speed gets stupid long waiting times. As a speed shop they have been around forever and have a great reputation, but their turnaround times leave a lot to be desired. One of my closest friends was having them do a Pontiac 455 for him and after 4 years of "call back in 6 months" he demanded his deposit back and went elsewhere.

There's a local guy on the island named Mustang Eddie who rebuild tons of T5s and will do any manual transmission for you. He has a great reputation on the LI Mustangs scene. PM me for his number and you'll have a trans in a week or two.

Here's his running ad on my local forum:

"Rebuilt stock 85-93 t-5 $750 less if you have a rebuildable core.Used 85-93 t-5 $400 Have parts to convert either one to 94-5. Rebuilt 2.95z t-5 $900.Rebuilt T-45 $900.Rebuilt Tremec 3650 $1000 Have access to several 05 & up 3650 take out's that are new to near new $1700ea.Can also rebuild any Ford STICKSHIFT transmission(T-5,T-45,T-56, 3650 or Tremec).Fair prices fast tunaround."
