I am ready to do a gear swap in my 2000 GT 'vert. Please don't tell me to go 4.10's- ain't gonna happen. I'm almost ready to order 3.73's but I'm still considering 3.55's. I do not go to the track but I love spirited acceleration. Has anybody had 3.55's and 3.73's in the same car? Which did you prefer? I just want to make sure 3.73's aren't too drastic. I probable drive 70% highway, 30% town. Can the speedo be corrected by Ford by changing a value in the computer or does it have to be a speed cal?

ok

go 410s if not getting a blower.. trust me I drove around with my 373s months before I got my blower and it didnt do that much.. guys with 410s beating my ass..

I know you mentioned you won't go w/ 4.10s but you also said you like 'spirited' acceleration. I hate to tell you but you won't get it out of anything higher than 4.10. If you go 3.55 or 3.73 you'll be sadly dissapointed. & for the speedo you will need a Speedcal or Superchips Microtuner.

yeah

I think 373 gears should have been stock on the GT an 410s should be the upgrade.. dont know why people are so scared of them.. most cars come stock with 410s or higher..

Yeah, don't "fear the gear". But, if you're dead set against the 4.10's, at least getthe 3.73's, or better yet some companies are making 3.90's. There's a guy who posts on www.imboc.com that has run a 12.8XX in his near stock BULLITT and 3.90 gears.

The 3.55's might feel like a watse of money. I MIGHT put 3.55's in in someone was to GIVE me a set out of a Mach 1 or something.

For me, 4.10's are in my futute. For you, whatever you want, man.

I actually had ordered 3.90s but they didn't come in so I cancelled that order & had my mechanic install 4.10s instead.

I just had 4.10's installed last night. I have only driven about 30 miles with them so this is my first impression response:

They are not that big of a deal. Don't get me wrong, the car gets into the powerband quicker and yes, the car feels quicker, but it's not like night and day. It's more like night and dusk. Adding the new KB supercharger to a stock GT would be like night and day.

The 4.10 gear is NOT too much gear for the street. I can easily see why people would be dissappointed with anything less than 4.10. By the way, just as I guessed, traction sucks in first and second gear (it sucked with my 3.27 gear too). However, it's still winter in Chicago and I am running Blizzaks in the rear for now.

I'd highly suggest just keeping your 3.27 gear unless you are willing to move up to at least a 4.10 gear. You really won't feel much difference with 3.55 or 3.73. The 3.27 gear is not nearly as bad as everyone makes them out to be. I just got bored and needed a change. The 4.10 gear is fun.

you should get 4:10's. there is a reason everbody says this. consider 3.90's. If you don't go at least 3.73's (which you will probabaly kick yourself for later anyway) you will kickyourself instantly. these cars should have came with 3.73's stock. 3.55's are a waste of money.

Alright people what part of him saying "Please don't tell me to get 4.10's" don't you understand? To answer your direct question though, the 3.73's are the gear you want. I opted for them over the 3.55's and yes even the holy 4.10's. The drivability of the car goes up and it becomes alot more fun to drive. It isn't a "drastic" change, but you will have to learn the gears. As far as the speedo, you will have to get either the Speedcal or a custom burned chip.
