New engine 351 in car . . .Holley 600 New because it was running rich.

Here is the problem - I set the base timing at 10*. The car starts and idles fine without the vacum advance pluged in. As soon as I plug the vacum line into the Reman 351 distributor the idle jumps to 2 grand!!!

Very annoying. . .

any ideas?

Sounds like you have 2 things wrong.

1. Try to connect the vac advance to a place on the carb that only sees vac when the throttle plates are opened.

2. Check the amount of advance the vac advance it pulling in. Sounds like it is way too much, causing it to raise the idle, then causing the centrifical to bring in some also.

It should not be connected to direct manifold vac, only on the carb which sees vac only when the gas pedal is depressed.

Ok - I put the line on the top vacum port on the holley (timed, not ditrect) and that helped A LOT! However, it is still a little high. THe timing is set at 10*...

I finally read the directions for the Holley and it spells it right out...

thanks for the help!
