really bad smell

i have a 1990 5.0 mustang the car smells realy bad like oil and fumes and gasss im getting realy tired of it
the car does not have a thermostat i guess thats why it smells like gas but the fumes and the oil i have no i idea on monday i got tired of the smell and i went to the local car wash and took the presure washer and clean around the headers and bell housin and tranny ann it helped with the oil smell now i need help with the fumes if i drive with the windows closed thers no smell but once i open them it smell realy bad can a leak cause this smelll need help thanks

no i have no cats
but when i had the cats it smelled the same

Does your exhaust exit the underside of your car or do you have turn downs? If not have the exhaust run out so the fumes do not collect under the car.

Is your PCV system hooked up? may be getting oders from oil residue crankcase venting.

Start by putting a thermostat in, no thermostat is actually counter productive.

Next make sure the valve covers and the main seal aren't leaking, they will drip down and the air movement will spread the oil all over the h pipe.

Put the inner shift boot back in it or install a new one.

Charcoal canister hooked up and no cracks in the tubing that goes to it?
