really thinking about going with this motor, what do you guys think

i think if i was to get it, i'd order a 87 motor and not an 86, that way i'd get e7 heads and pistons with valve reliefs. the only thing i could think of that sucks, is im not going to be returning a core because the original motor thats coming out is staying with me, so i can learn how to rebuild a motor myself. so what do you guys think. opinions guys please.

well i guess 1500 and free shipping with a 3 year warranty is not bad, i'd want to read the ins and outs of the warranty though, they make require you to have a stock set up, maybe talk to the company and find out more, myself if I were gonna get a "new" motor i'd like to have not stock heads, but for 1500 that's not bad, BUT i think you can get them new from for like 1100, I put one in a guys truck a few years back and thats what he said he paid

to my understanding though the trucks were never roller. may be wrong though.

well, it's going to be a daily drivin, emmisions passing, full acces mustang, so having a boss 302 motor (with 2bbl heads even) is kind of not in the play list. i was looking for a radical hci 306, but i dont want my engine to be that radical right now.

from what i remember it was hit or miss. most did not, but i think i do recall hearing of a few ho motors (may have just been mustang swaps though, i dont know, look up fordtrucks.com if youre really that interested).

just out of curiosity, what wrong with the motor youve got now? is it just old and tired? why not go with a chp/dss/whatever 306 with a nice set of al. heads?

That's what I'm wondering. For a naturally aspirated motor, if I had the cash (and I hadn't just done a fresh nearly-stock motor), I would buy a CHP long block, throw some Trick Flows/AFR's on it, and be done with it all.

because i need to be able to drive this everyday and still get reasonable gas milage. i did toss around getting something a little more powerful, but i dont want to spend the cash to do it right now, theres other things the car needs. i have around 3-4 grand for a motor, but i dont think i want to spend all of it. on top of that, i really dont need all that power right now. the reason im just going with a re-manned one is mostly because of cost, that and i might throw a little boost to it later, so it'd be nice to have a fresh motor and not have to worry about 6psi.

I see what he's saying, He drives the car everyday and he'd like to had a bunch more power, but What is number one on the list is a good driving reliable motor, and He'll keep his old 302 and play with that, learn to rebuild it, maybe build that motor up and later on when he is more able to THEN build a much faster car. I understand, if you you can afford it, this looks like a good deal, 1500, no shipping cost, you'll pay 150 to keep your block, and have a good 3 year warranty, i say if it's what you want, more power to ya

For instance, get a rebuilt shortblock and put a better set of heads on it.

If the thing is running ok now, I'd say just keep driving the car and saving money until you can get what you really want. Kind of silly to spend money on a stock headed longblock IMO.

well, it runs ok, but it's low on power, its losing compression and you can tell it going to be on its last leg here pretty soon, so i want to do this while i have the money before its too late.

I agree with you. For 1500.00 and free shipping, your getting a fresh stock motor that down the road you can add boost to if you want more horse power. Also your not looking for a radical combo. Also, you can pick up some high flow heads down the road if want some more power. Or keep the new motor the way it is and build up your old one at your own leisure.
Sounds good to me.

Problem with that deal, you are probably spending $600 on the heads, and they aren't worth that.
Save up and get the gt40x crate engine. 12,000 mile warranty, comes with a cam, all new parts except the intake. Including a new flywheel.

I understand a budget, but i drove one of my engines with like 8psi of oil pressure at hot idle, for over a year.

alright, well i just spoke to one of their builders on the pohone, he said for about $2000 i could have some better forged pistons (like probe or speed pro) some upgraded rods and MIL cometic headgaskets, oh yea, and ARP hardware throughout. so i like where this is going, because i WANT stock e7 heads, but like i said, im gonna stick some boost to it a little later on, so i'll be able to handle it when it comes.

the gt-40 crate motor is an idea though, i just dont know what size injectors i'd need, and if i could keep SD for a while.

really thinking about going with this motor, what do you guys think
