really thinking about going with this motor, what do you guys think

I just bought a GT-40 crate engine, yet to be install, sitting at the garage on a engine stand. I got it through Summit Racing for just under $3500.00.
Ford Racing reccomends 30lb injectors in case you want to run a supercharger later on. I have a C&L MAF meter, so I have to change the sample tube for the injector change. They reccomended 24 lb injectors. They said the 30 lb injectors would cause poor low and mid range torque and driveability. I wouldn't go with 30's unless I had a dyno tune and chip done. I'm going with the 24's because I've already spent enough. I won't be upgrading for quite a while. The 24's will handle up to 384hp. The crate motor puts out 345hp.
I got the feedback below from a person on here who had the Gt-40 Ford Racing crate motor in his car.

I had that exact same crate motor in my old stang and it would put down 285 on the dyno all day long. It may not the best value for the horsepower but I tell you it is reliable as you can get. I would take it to the strip every week and out on saturday nights for 2 years straight, put over 40,000 miles on it this way and never broke a thing on the motor. I then put a supercharger on it and ran it another 1.5 years and put another 20,000 on it. Then sold it to my friend 4 years ago who still has it and has put 80,000 miles on it and has never been in the shop for motor repairs and still puts down almost 400 to the wheels with the supercharger. Can't get any better than that for the money!

WOW! read that guys quote and am very impressed. chances are though, if i get a gt-40 crate motor, i wont be throwing an s/c on it. so would i still need 24lb injectors

Just a idea, from reading the ebay page, they say you can send them YOUR motor and have them rebuild it, you can maybe go buy the block heads and intake off a explorer and send it to them as a mustang block, you'll get the lighter block, better intake and rebuild gt-40's, even if you want e7s you could sell the brand new gt-40s and make some cash back, BUT from what you've posted it looks like your needs and wants make me think it's a good idea to just fork out the 2000 for the beefed up motor from the ebay guy, let us know how it goes

oh, i see what your saying. that makes scence man. but there is absolutely NO v8 exploders in the scrap yards. but yeah, thats an idea.

wouldnt see why not. just use your 85 carbed timing cover and plug the thermactor holes in the back of the head if you dont need smog.

Yes do that, if they sell good stuff this could be a good cheap way to build a pritty nice/fast 5,0 find out what shipping is

contact a local builder and price out a 'stock' rebuild....most likely you'll find the price simular and with a local guy to come to if problems arise. Price is decent but you're making a risky buy simply because if all goes wrong next yr he may not be around to assist. I like buying pricey items in a face to face fashion...but that's just me. GT40 crate motor is decent but comes with an alpha cam that the SD system may not agree with.....if you want close to stock go fresh short block and explorer GT40 irons and intake....power increase and can be assemebled locally quiet cost effectively.
