Question is on the posi unit carrier - is Yukon LSD fine for my needs or should I use the old OEM unit ( it has 3.27 gears on it ) . I am not made of money , lol . price for quality labor in my area is $600 to do the rear . I can get a new Yukon LSD for $350 online. Motorsport gears $210 , bearing install kit $110 , lube and modifier $50 , new cover and gasket , $40 , axel bearings ,$50 .
94 5.0 automatic - stock engine - convertible - 120k miles - I want some torque from stop driving around town . I am going to go with 4.10s ( I had 3.73 in an 89 and was not happy )

You want to do it on a budget?
I'd get the ford gears and lube/friction modifier, have them installed on your stock t-loc.
Your still.stock engine won't kill the stock t-loc,as I got over 300k miles on mine and I leave two black stripes all the time.

So you want to do this work because there is a problem or just to get 4.10 gears?

I just to get the gears changed on a budget, I would do as nickyb said and only do pinion and axle seals if you currently have leaks.

Another way to save a little would be go to the local wrecker and find a 96-01 Explorer or an 01-05 Sport Trac as many of these came factory with 3.73 or 4.10 gears. Getting some good used gears will be much less than the 210 for new gears.

National drive train sells gears with an install kit sub 200 on fleaby there usually motive gears, lot of vendors where blowing out gear sets recently, think they sold out on rock auto though. Got a couple for under $100 since I wanna see if 4:30 vs 4:56 gain any thing....

I will say that if you do go through the rear end then you should install a pinion bearing spacer that has shims vs the crush sleeve.
