Rear End Clunk.. WTF, in need of help..

OK so when iam driving and i hit just about any bumb in the road (like speed bumbs and pot-holes) i hear this Loud azz clunk in the rear....

Now i thought it could be the upper or lower control arm bushings. So i got new both, upper and lower control arms with new bushing. Didnt fix the problem

Then i thought it might be the rear snubber because my car is lowered with Sportlines.. and didnt fix the problem

Then i thought it could be the rear panel (iam not sure what its called) above the rear seats in the interior. So i made sure that it wasnt bouncing around or moving... didnt fix the problem..

Also i nocticed that my Alm. driveshaft was rubbing against the Ebrake bracket and wore a PHAT grove into the driveshaft about 1/2 the way threw it. So i took it off and found a 96 cobra drive shaft for 50 bucks and threw that in there ( i didnt have my stock one anymore) and it still rubs but nothing bad like the other one.. So now iam at a crossroad and dont have many other ideas other than it could be the driveshaft hitting my X-pipe over a bumb or something.. or some part of my exhaust hitting something. IDK!!! Please help..

Umm thats a good question. I used the ones that came with them. yes they are aftermarket, but are you saying that even if they are tight threw the top that there could be play underneath where you cant see, and where the underside of the nut where that 2nd bushing is could be lose??! or not touching all the way, so that when i hit a bumb that would cause the shock to move more than it should and not be using the full ablity of the shock? huh.. well that makes sence, and im not really sure how to check, but i will def. take another look at that.... would you have any other ideas?
:nice:

did you remove the vibration damper off the rear center section?, sometimes called "mooseballs"
also check the lower rear shocks mounts, I know when I installed my QA1's I had a clunk and had to add 1 flat washer to each side of the lower shock mount so it would tighten-up/pinch it enuff

considering you had replaced the control arms i assume you would have noticed this but when mine was doing that it was be the sway bar actually broke at the mounting poing to the lower control arm.check it out i guess.

Hi,

Just a thought but what about the diff house smacking the under side spare tire well?
If you have an after market diff cover then I am betting it could be that. It happend to mine when I fit the diff cover any hard bumps I hit it would smack it and I have stock vert shocks still so they are slightly softer then coupes.

just a thought!

Huh.. well that "mooseballs" that someone said, its that rubber Snubber that sits above the rear diff.. correct? Well i know that my friend (that also has a stang) CUT it for me.. so that it wouldnt hit. Main thing is that he did the same, with the same spring set up and his doesnt make the same nosie. SO i think im going to take it off and see if it does anything. Also maybe i'll check the rear shocks, I.E the mounts, bolts, and rubber bushings.

Other than that i cant think of anything else. I thank you guys for all your help and i will post when and if i get that problem fixed. I would hate for someone else to go threw this. It HELLA sucks.. it just sounds sooooooo bad.. :bang:
OK well thanks again guys..

Oh also Hotdog71, i do have a different diff plate but its the same as stock just chrome, i got it from blood enterprizes. And i will double check it at this point. thanks again thoe.
